These are horrid little things to take out.

Just finished taking them out of the new chicks I picked up at Atwoods. My DH held them while I cut the metal and then pried them loose from their skin and pulled them back out. I was so afraid I would twist their wing too much and break it. Just glad it's over and done with.

What is that?

Due to the cold, I bought this chick home and raised "her" in my garage and restroom for the last few weeks. Now she is almost 3 mos old. But so ugly that she has only a few wing feathers. I think this is a She. With the weather warming up, hopefully in the next 2-3 weeks I can return her back too the ranch. This naked condition is a trait of Vietnamese GaNoi
She is uggaallleee. I want a pic when she is feathered up!! Haha!!!

Wow, what a turkey you got there. That how pure GaNoi from Vietnam looks. When coming to US, many breeders stop trimming the feather so the bird can survive the cold environment here. I myself cross them with other breeds such as Thai, Brazil and they start to have more feathers. Last year I sold one to a breeder in NC, a few months later he called me and sent me the picture of the 2-3 mo chicks. He wondered what's wrong with them when , at 2-3 mo old, all they had were a few wing feathers. Someday, people will start cooking these chickens for thanksgiving and x-mas. PS: Mine won't grow up to be like that .... because it's a She :)
Oh geez oh geez those are still really U.G.L.Y

For anyone interested our very own Texas friend, CatKai, is a wonderful breeder of the Silkied Ameraucana. They are pure Ameraucanas and super cute! Some have had issues with health, but CatKai's appear to be very hardy. I want some, someday....

Those wing clips look painful. I would hate to have to remove them.

I got my yard of dirt moved into the raised bed after work today. It doesn't look like that much dirt until you start hauling loads of it up a hill. I'm not sure how long it took -- 1.5 - 2 hours I guess. Glad it is done and out of the way. My hands and back are sore now.

Cycling (I hope) and more yard work tomorrow. I need to clean the garage out at some point here too. It is a disaster area from the new roof going on...and my son.

hensfortherapy, henless What the h*ll is that? A tag? Why?

These wing tags were on the pullet chicks I picked up at Atwoods. They were tagged to be able to tell them apart from the straight run chicks, in case any got put in the wrong bin. I understand why, it was just a pain to get them off. I think leg banding would have been easier, at least for the removal part anyway.

The chicks seemed fine this morning. They were running around and doing their thing.
