Texas

Since the weather is keeping from working on my coop, I decided to take the DW and kiddos into Wimberley to piddle around. I picked up a rooster for all my single ladies. Best rooster ever! He doesn't crow, eat, or poop anywhere. Anyone take a guess at the breed? I think I will call him "The Colonel".

The perfect Roo!

Here's Rizzo, looking all majestic before I tossed him into a puddle, haha!

The deep red against the black is gorgeous!

It is falling a flood here. Just talked to my mom, she lives near Gladewater. She said the sleet is so bad it looks like snow covering the ground. There's ice on the trees and she can hear limbs snapping.

Hope everyone stays safe. I'll be glad when this mess is over with!

My daughter is in Waco and she sent me a picture of the snow! My mom is in Athens, close by Tyler and it is just sleeting really bad! So far no forecast for ice here in Houston!

Love him!

I like this overall. I would add some more windows and/or vents at the bottom of the coop portion that have hardware cloth in them and flaps that go on top of them.

You'll get better air flow with more windows/vents in the coop portion since in summer it gets so gross and is still often 90 degrees at midnight. When you put a flap on the windows that you can open and hold them in place with a chain, you still get the air flow but it helps keep rain out of the coop. And then in winter, you just unchain the flap and let it hang, and that will still give you some airflow in the coop but won't close it up too tightly and cut off all airflow - cuz then you risk humidity and frostbite issues if you close it up too tightly in winter.

oh yeah, and some vent holes in the nest box. I use a hole saw and make small round holes up at the top of the walls of the nest box and cover with wire. And make the nest box roof to that it overhangs the sides pretty good to keep rain out. It gets hot in those next boxes in the summer.
Good info. I was planning on the windows in the coop area. had not thought about the nest boxes needing holes too.

Crazy weather isn't it. 75 yesterday and 25 tonight. At noon, I was outside , doing referee a soccer game. Both teams agreed to make it short. Then they finally cancelled the game scheduled for 2:30pm. Well, with gloves and my hands were frozen with wind and wetness. I took the boys to go eat Pho.. a great day for hot soups, we drank all the broth. Coming home, I stuck inside my blanket, surfed the web to find a music program that lasted over 1 hr... then I went deep in my dream... voile, c'est la vie. Now I started to set my water dripping, but a little late for the fawcett in the yard as nothing came out... oops .. let's see what problem showing up tomorrow.

I need to invest in a small incubator. I think I will buy a small (about 40 eggs) with egg turner. Which place is better... Tractor Supply or ... New Braunfels FeedStore.. .or Callahan (183 near Austin airport) ?

Kingsland tx area I have a mixed flock total of 30 calif. Whites, Rhode Island reds, buff orphingtons Americans Heyhell

TSC had the Little Giant Incubators last week when I was there on Thursday. They were out of the egg turners. They also carry that all in one incubator with egg turner and fan, but they were also sold out of them. NB Feed did not have an incubator at all. I can't attest to Callahans.

Let's hope no problems! It's only supposed yo stay below freezing for a couple of hours here in big H town so I doubt any problems will occur. Crossed fingers

About TSC, I know there is 1 in Kyle (I-35) and one in San Marcos. Was you referred to the one in San Marcos?
