We had thunder sleet on Sunday. It just poured a few times. I took a video of it.  Didn't get very much.  We really need a big rain here. Looks like this weekend we may get some rain.

It poured cats and dogs here. So thankful that ts not supposed to get town to freezing tonight or Houston would be in a world of hurt!

I saw this Red-shouldered hawk at the park today. I've been wanting to get some shots of the hawks for awhile now. They have a nest in the park. Last year they raised 3 babies.

Hey why does my BA squat when she sees me coming? I pet her until I am tired but I think she'd squat like that forever! She only started doing this immediately after she started laying. My two EEs don't ever do this and Lucy, my white leg horn will squat for me every once in a while. What's up with this behavior?

Its referred to as an egg squat. They usually start it around the time they start laying. It makes it so much easier to catch them!

We have a bantam red frizzled Cochin that we've never been able to get near and now she squats almost anytime we get close, she's a year old. She also just started laying, finally! She shakes like she's terrified when she squats for us, it almost makes us feel bad. I think it has something to do with mating and accepting a rooster.

ETA: Not all of our hens squat as much as the others. It seems to vary by pullet/hen and not so much breed for us.

I think she thinks you're her rooster. :) After I scratch my girls saddle she ruffles her feathers and goes about her scratching

Sunday it was 79 and this is what we got up to this morning. it rained all night and everything is iced over. It's 34 now and will likely freeze tonight. We felt sorry for our flock as they have been in lock down for three days. So we made them a treat of cooked oats mixed veggies and cream corn. Love our chickens Magpie

Wife of chicken lovin' hubby, mother of two, grandmother of three, three dogs, 20 chickens, 7-18 cats, depending on who comes for dinner, 1 amber corn snake, various fish and 1 40 yr old rotten double yellow head amazon parrot.
