So I plan on building these bucket type auto-feeders but with 2 openings instead of one. It is recommended for adult (18+ week old) chickens. My birds are 8 weeks old. What should I use in the interim as the chick feeders are no longer viable? (They are too small now that the pullets are bigger.)

This is what we have and LOVE it. We made a PVC feeder for the big girls but prefer this one. I'm usually one for saving money but we've spent so much on other options that I wish we would have started with this to begin with! We have a second PVC feeder (that's currently being used to hold my son's arrows...) but the chicks in the grow out pen weren't big enough to get to it.

Here is my new hen! Wynonna and of course her Prince, he has not left her side!

Awe chicken love.

Have you looked on your local Craigslist for extra materials people are getting rid of? I've seen privacy fence on ours a few times and almost picked it up just to have. Plus it would be easier to take apart than pallets and just a little cutting to remove the picket top. Sometimes its free or very cheap. You might also post a couple of ads yourself, I would suggest under the 'free', farm and garden' and 'materials', stating you are looking for free or inexpensive materials to build a chicken coop.

We will figure out a way to get you chickens!!!
My neighbour has most of the stuff I need to build the bigger coop. It is the fencing that was going to be too much, plus all the chicks from all over that I was planning on. Being able to use plastic netting and stakes along with the little dog house makes this much more affordable. The silkies are local too. Waiting to hear back if they have any right now.

One of the nice thing about the Silkies is their easy going temperament. You'll be able to add new chicks later and they will probably raise them for you.

Help please...
My banny rooster Bean Has so really red skin around his vent should I put bag balm on it or is this a sign of something else?

it looks kind of chapped like a bad diaper rash.

Have you ever checked for mites? Look through his feathers if you see tiny moving dots or lil white clusters at the base of the feathers then you got mites.

Hey can someone answer a question for me.  I think I have 2 roos, they are both RIR.  Does anyone know if they will be ok together?  I have heard some people say you can't have 2 roos in the same pen and others say you can.  I don't know if different breeds act differently.  So what do you think?

I think it depends on the individual birds- I have 3 Bantam roo's in with 7 bantam hens but had 2 BLRW roo's that 1 was always beating up the other, finally had to sell 1 of them. Some AG stags will be OK until 9-10 months then all hell will break loose :duc
