Good afternoon folks, Glad everyone made it through the bad weather. Got here about 4am. Guess the worst was over by then. We got 1 3/8 rain and some wind. Took a bumb on the power but only enough seconds to make all the clocks blink.

One thing hurricane Ike did for us, Sam Houston had to replace and update their equipment so don't have near the power outage we used to.

Sorry about your loss. That would freak me out if I found that.
I have pretty good varmit control...two big dogs and a hubby with a rifle. Got 3 'possums and a big racoon since January.

MsJellybean
How do you make oatmeal bread?
That would be good to know for survival recipe. And we love oatmeal!

Gonna go eat catfish! Mom just called and invited us...nice surprise
Have a good one....Magpie

Tragedy just struck in my baby pen. Lost three, not to be found, and half one half wrenched out of the 1x2 hardware clothe.

Made me puke.

Not sure what it was, I'm thinking raccoon, but it struck between seven when John did his morning round before leaving for work, and nine when I walked out there.

We had a memorial service for my favorite little pullet... The one wretched through the wire.

Just spent the last four hours taking down the 1x2 and replacing it with 1/4x1/4 and bolted it down to the brooder room.

I mustove jynxed myself this morning.

Little miss chicken is adorable!!! I wish mine was that tame.

So sorry. Hope whatever it was chokes and dies.

This recipe has a nice tutorial to it. I have not made this one yet, but it is close to my recipe. I am trying this one as soon as I get more yeast. I'm just shy of 2 TBSP.
Thank you....the recipe is now in my folder :) My sweetie loves bread, especially homemade. And you are right...this would make a most wonderful egg sandwich whether fried or scrambled.

Tonight is her first solo trip to take picture of a baseball game for school.
she is the 4th one to get her state freedom card, but it never seems to get easier to let go no matter how easy they try to make it

I am pulling for Sophie! * you go girl!*

I caught a opossum last night and I may come to regret that I let it go on the neighbors property. I have trouble killing them as they eat poisonous snakes.

I have felt very triumphant as of the past 3 nights I think I have finally gotten the rats blocked from entering my coop at night and that is my second hurdle for getting DH's impulse chicks outside.

I am currently looking for a RAT AIR PISTOL if anyone has experience with an air pistol that will kill or slow down a rat for a second shot what kind do you use?

When we went to local lumber store (not HD...the other one) we looked at the deer wire MsJellybean mentioned. Going to take down the 4 ft fence and put that up instead. Will use the 4ft fencng around the garden. It's worth the extra $$$ to have a taller fence and be able to cover it easily. I won't worry about hawks and my girls won't be getting out unless we let them out and can watch them.

After what happened to @orumpoultry going to use something better for the grow out pen. I would feel awful if something happened to them just because I was gonna use chicken wire to save a little money. Going to check into price of 1 inch welded wire. That's what my little brooder cage is made of.

BTW...catfish was wonderful. B I L and nephew caught 65 this week. Gave M & D 30 lbs all dressed and filleted.
Dad made homemade hush puppies...too bad no one ate the french fries...LOL
And I got the night off from cookin'

Hubby suggested CO2 powered BB pistol or even a good airsoft paintball pistol. BB pistol with 17 cal. pellets would probably kill a possum so would easily take out a rat.

Can anyone help me?? I have ab EE that lays almost everyday, (a big beautiful, tasty blue egg), but the last 2 eggs have had blood stains on them. There for a while she would lay almost everyday for a week, and then nothing for 2 weeks, and then start up again for a week. Same pattern for about 2 months. Should I be worried?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
