Texas

Just talked to our daughter. She is stationed at the Little Rock AFB. They got hit hard by the storms. It was raining really hard and running thru her back yard it took out a section of her back fence. Says she never seen it like this, a little scary. The bottom of her AC unit is under water so that's agood 6 inches. She has a house and she and my grandson just planted their garden last week. The garden is on higher ground so it should be ok hoping no water in the house.

I used a medium sized dog carrier with great success. Even now, the broody will go lay an egg in the carrier if the door is open, so I guess SHE really liked it too!!

It is a great way to keep broody and eggs safe.
Did you leave the door open or keep her closed in it? Becka is used to coming and going as she wants. Not sure how she'll act if I lock her in.

Goodness!!! That is awful! I hope her home insurance company is one that responds quickly. Sending good thoughts her way

My broody didn't move off of the nest except for every two days (I think once she went 3 days) so I locked her in. I put food and a water bottle on the cage door but she never did drink, but she ate some. When I would go out to gather eggs she would start fussing letting me know she wanted to go out for a while. Then I would have to wait for her to eat, drink and take those NASTY broody poo's before she finally was ready to go back in...about 20 minutes.

Right after the chicks were hatched we had a new (and still empty) shed delivered so I put the carrier in there with the carrier door open but the shed door closed. That worked really well, too. The chicks were able to get plenty of exercise but were completely safe.

Edited: My chickens free range a good part of the day so they are used to their freedom, too. This broody is five years old. The younger broody I used, less than 1 year old, was not a good mom.

Thanks for the worry. She is leasing the house. She's got 3 1/2 more years to serve and will be moving more times so she's not ready to buy yet.
So I guess it will be up to the property owner to fix any damage. Told her I'd call in a couple of days to see if my grandson's corn and beans made it.
He's 8 and this is his first garden so he's excited. He planned what he wanted to plant and then called to ask me a hundred questions. It was quite a conversation!

Don't you love it when they get to that age! My kids call my mom to talk about some kind of dragon game they all "play" together, I don't have a clue what they are talking about but they talk for ever! I love it, even though it is about computer stuff, at least they are talking and asking my mom for advice, makes my heart happy!

Yep being a gramma is great fun! Just wish they weren't all so far away.
