Texas

Either Abilene or close to it, we have a friend that is looking for places for us there until we can come down to see them, too.

Abilene is too far away for me to give advice (I'm just east of Austin), but there are a LOT of people here from that area and I'm sure they will have a bunch of info for you!

Lmbo these three hens have decided they are gonna share this one nest. They are determined to all sit on it at the same time and share it no matter what and they are not fighting and there are atleast seven eggs that they are all taking care of lol

Finally got a chance to see what our sebright is sitting on. First I had to pry a big red hen off her nest. There were 12 eggs under that little bird. 4 bantam eggs and the rest belong to my big girls. Took four of the big eggs and put them under another hen but I don't thnk she is broody enough, she didn't stay.

Tomorrow if the weather co-operates we will build a bigger run for the gang and move Belle and Speedy to that cage and give Becka the brooder cage so she can sit in peace with out another egg showing up everytime she goes for a snack. So will mark the eggs under cover of darkness tonight. May try to candle but it's only been 4 days, so probably won't see much if anything.

Well the eggs will never get cold and they can spell each other at lunch time. I wish some of my big hens would get broody, but they haven't yet. They are laying fertile eggs, I'm sure of that but they have no interest in sitting.

How are your new peepers doing? Did the last one finally hatch?

Environmental enrichment day here. I put a tree branch into the brooder for my 6-4 week old Wyandottes. One had started hopping up on top of the water so I gave them something to work with and enough space for all six to be on at the same time. They like to step on each other to get on and off...much easier that way. Will be working on their permanent digs next weekend. I plan to put a chain link kennel into one of my horse stalls. I will be making a feeder and nipple water system because they are expert trashers of any open water container.

They are chickens, not sardines or did no one tell them?? :D

Can you lay it sideways so they can all share at the same time? My nest boxes are only large enough for one hen but the often double up. This time of the year it's not bad, but come summer I get worried.

Great idea...I need to do that for mine. I totally agree about trashing the open water jugs. I have it elevated on a couple pieces of wood but hasn't helped much. I have to clean it two or three times a day
