Texas

Theres a coop tour here this weekend! I wish I could go, but I'll be visiting family in the Houston area. Figures! Lol.
I've already pushed it back twice, so I need to go :p
I sure would live to meet other chickeners and see their coops though...
Hope everyone is having a good night! I justify in from watching the lightning letting the big girls forage. My Barred Rock Freya is going to be the death of me...the only one who wont come to me when its time to tuck in for the night.
Should have seen me chasing her around last night after it starts to rain! It was like one of those cartoons where they're chasing the pigs in the mud!
The faceplant after I slipped in the grass was just the cherry on top.
Oh No...glad you weren't hurt....Hubby has two words...dip net...LOL
Actually we've taught ours a trick...Put a piece of bread or other treat in a plastic grocery bag...shake the bag...then when they come give them the treat...After a few times they figure out you have a treat and they coming running...works pretty well for us.

Welcome...good folks here...but beware they will enable you...to have more chickens and more chickens....

Oh goodness please NO. I have already been enabled on a goose thread and have more than I originally planned........

I seem to be their willing slave.....
My husband is so gonna kill me.....

Hi, I just got into chickens and geese 8 weeks ago. I live close to San Antonio, Texas!

Hello folks!  Just introducing myself....I'm a brand new chicken mom here in Central Texas smack dab in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the "Texas triangle" (formed by Dallas, Houston, San Antonio).   Got my girls (after five years of dreaming!) a few weeks ago and they moved into their new coop last night.  Can't wait to learn from all you Texas chicken folks.  I am concerned about the summer heat so maybe you can advise and the temps go up.  Anyway, Hi!  :frow

Howdy!!! From New Braunfels

Hello lisaterrell88 broken eggs in a hen can be potentially fatal for the bird while you can attemp to remove the egg yourself it is best to take the hen to you're local avian or livestock vet

Well, it seems the general opinion is that this Maran is a roo. I've been watching the combs...I thought roos would grow bigger combs sooner.  So that is not necessarily an indicator.  I guess I'll wait and see what the others look like as they grow.  Guess I will have to change his name to George.  Either way...they sure are sweet, friendly little birds...not scared at all.  I'll try to get a pic of them both, then you can tell me the really bad news...that I have 2 roos!!  :th

Try realizing you have 8 teenage roos... Well 7 now... One went missing this afternoon.

Very pretty! Love their deep coloring!

I agree!!!

Howdy from Trinity!!! Beware of Lisa. She'll talk you into chicken math.

It's funny to watch...if they see either of us headed to our little barn with any kind of sack they think it's for them. I have to walk past the coop, so they follow along the fence and right into the coop...until they figure out I didn't go in the coop...then they all dash back out...just in case I'm gonna throw the treat over the fence.
But I always give them the treat when they come in for me...I never lie to my chickens. They will know!

I have a varied flock consisting of 5 Barred Rocks, 7 Rhode Island Reds, and 7 Silver Laced Wyandottes that were straight runs. 6 Buff Orphington and 6 Black Australorps pullets. So far I believe I have 6 SLW Roos, 2 BR Roos, and 3 RIR Roos. In short way to many roos, so I am thinking lots of chicken dinner coming up soon. lol
I also have 6 geese, 4 white Chinese and 2 Africans.

oh please don't enable me, if I get any more feathered babies my hubby really will kill me....... it might be worth it though.

I was terrified of geese as a kid. They'd always chase me!
Even now I'll steer away from them lol
but I wonder how they are when you raise them from chicks? Less aggressive?

Whew! I am glad I have chickens.
My sweet, loving daughter is showing signs of a bridezilla. Can it be?. Oh my, wedding planning and preparations can be brutal.

And they never really are anybody else's problem. They are your babies til you die.
I forgot, when is the wedding?
