Didn't know about the mirrors for chickens...cool idea. My parrot use to "court" her reflection. I wonder how my roo would react???

My guess is your roo would do the same. I've just heard chickens are fascinated with their own reflection/mirrors...I'm looking forward to witnessing their reactions soon.

Gee..I sure wanted ducks next spring but after learning what goes on with starfire's gang I'm not so sure I'm ready for the drama...LOL. I hope things work out for Ebony, she is so pretty. I'll just follow what happens with hers...I have time to decide. Did not know they bond like geese.

If there's one thing you can count on, with the Quackers, is unpredictability!     Good luck getting Ebony broody...I'm sure she'd do very well with little ones to care for.

I didn't think it was possible for any hen, weather duck, chicken, or goose to go broody without having reached point of lay. All the info I read said broodiness is connected to breed, age, and number of eggs laid. So I figured with only 2 laying hens in the entire yard I had. 50/50 chance of getting Ebony broody. Guess the ducks had different ideas.

Since Loudmouth & Ivory are the same age as Daisy, they should be laying soon. Maybe they have the age thing going for them, even if the eggs haven't come yet.

I am a newbie from the great state of Texas too. I live in a very small town, Rising Star, near the heart of Tx. We have zero chickens at the moment due to an aggressive predator that wiped us out in 2 nights. The rooster was the last to go. We are waiting to repopulate until we are able to double wrap the pen in chicken wire. One layer wasn't enough. The article about training your chickens is what drew me to this site, but I must admit that I find them completely entertaining exactly as they are. We started with Guineas because that is what my husband thought he wanted, but I find the chickens to be far mor enjoyable at every stage of their growth. As far as their eggs are concerned, I don't need those either. My chickens are like my dog, they don't have to be productive to be welcome members of the ranch family.
