We adore Ebony. She comes running when I bring the ducks their food. She also runs to me now when Howard starts chasing her. Howard this morning chased her, grabbed her and pushed her down on the ground and was going to force breed her when I got there and grabbed him off her. He had not gotten into position yet, so no chance of hurting either in the middle of mating. But I nearly strangled that duck I was so angry. Instead he is locked up in the coop without any ladies with him. He also got really rough mating with Ivory earlier, before he started chasing Ebony, but as he was in position I was scared to pull him off her and had to wait until he was done to make sure she was ok. So after both those incidents today, he is in drake jail.

Its a really good thing that Howard will be moving to his new home this weekend, if the move happens, it's not for sure yet. I am fast losing my patience with his attitude. Otherwise I think I'd be having duck for dinner, and he would taste all the sweeter knowing that Ebony and my other ladies don't have to suffer his meanness anymore.

My chickens and ducks love the dog crates. The ducks have 1 they lay in, and the chickens have another they nap in. Go figure lol. Maybe when the chickens start laying some will use the dog crates, but I have 8 nest boxes built for them waiting inside their new coop. They should be moving in this weekend.
Drake Jail...I like it. :p

Well he has company now. We have a major storm cell moving towards us with the possibility of hail. So I grabbed every goose, chicken, and duck and moved them to the not quite finished coop. Their open air coop can't protect them from hail, the hail would punch through the plastic sides we put up for rain easily. So guess I am giving the new coop a test run today. It was work rounding up 31 chickens, 8 geese, and 5 ducks who did not want to go anywhere but the home they are familiar with. I had to catch and carry each and every one to complete the move. :th
The geese will keep Howard in line. He is smart enough to be scared of them so he won't be chasing anyone while locked up with them. I find it kind of funny that a mature drake is terrified of 11 week old goslings, but not complaining if it keeps him in check. ;)

I asked for rain and am getting it now. Not gonna cry about hail, any moistures is much appreciated. Thank the Lord my 2nd coop was nearing completion and will provide my flock protection from the hail storm. :bow

We got over an inch of rain yesterday, judging by what was in the bucket in the duck yard this morning. It has been cloudy all day and is now thundering again, so I think we are in for more. The land slopes from my neighbor's yard down through my yard, with the duck section being on the low end. It's pretty muddy already, since they ate off all the grass in that part. I am not complaining, though!

Going to round up our flock & put them in their run/coop. The winds are kicking up hard, again, and the rain/hail will be coming soon. Good luck, new coop!

Dang, I missed alot today. Been working in the shop, and looked outside, and saw the blackness in the sky. Raced home and tried to put my ladies up, hour and a half later, they are all safe, and I'm soaked from sweat!! I have one Americauna that refuses to go up when we want her to. I went thru a cup of raisins, a cup of dew berries, which my wife was going to make a cobbler with, and a can of corn. You know what made her go in??? A clap of thunder!! Not only does she have me wrapped around her little talon, but she knows how to get more treats than my other 7 ladies!! Gotta love 'em!!
