hello all!
I am new here on the forum, but have ran over a couple of articles that had the people from Texas in the posting from Back yard chickens.
I am in the fort worth area.
We have 7 chickes total.
1 Rooster Americana? I have heard this and seen it spelled differently.
3 Barred Rock chickens (hens)
2 silver laced wynandottes (hens)
1 hen americana

We are looking for a few more, just trying to find a good place to buy them.
Anyone notice the difference in behavior between a commerical raised and smaller farm raised chicks?

I think you probably have Easter Eggers, not Ameraucanas.

Easter Eggers are one of my favorite breeds (or should I say mixes?

). If you want pure Ameraucanas you have to buy from a breeder.

I have 3 SLW hens and they're so pretty, love their color patterns. I might be getting 8 more SLWs tomorrow. She will see.

all I got was the smell of approaching rain and to see the clouds as they passed overhead. My mother, who lives 60 miles from me, wound up with nearly an inch.

GOt 2 rain storms here yesterday!!!

First one skiped right over my house and of course that was the one with the most rain

But the second one sat right on top of us for about 45min. not heavy rain but still anything is better than nothing!

The open poultry show at the fair is Oct 15-16. Just another reason to love the fair. I'll be there with some Brahmas, my son with dark Cornish...all bantams.

I have never been to a poultry show....so I have a question. Can you buy chickens at them from exhibitors? Do the exhibitors normally take some to sell?

I am considering going to the State Fair next weekend.

I would like to find some standard sized White Faced Black Spanish. So if any of you others here in the DFW area know of anyone who breeds them I would love to be put in contact with them. I would not mind even having to drive a few hours to get some....or even just eggs!

Lastly.....coyotes or dogs got my only two geese on Tuesday night.......first time to experience that since I am new to the country life...
I just wish I had heard something and woke up! Have slept very lightly the past few nights....have a 22 rifle and a shotgun waiting by the window now. A guy from work is going to loan me a night vision scope.
