Texas

I'm north Austin! Just got my coop. Now I've got to figure out the chickens! I'm thinking I want to start with pullets because it seems like it would be one more thing to ask my husband to support--oh, hey, now we need a brooder first. Pretty sure I want Americaunas... My 4yo just wants pretty eggs, really.

Gladly accepted, all.

from Round Rock! My 4yr-old likes pretty eggs too. We have three Easter Eggers (Amaricauna mixes, blue/blue-green eggs), one Red Sex-Link (tan eggs) & one White Leghorn (white eggs). We want to get some Copper Marans (chocolate brown eggs) and some Olive Eggers (EE/Maran mixes, olive green eggs). We love our Ladies. They are so fun and easy to raise...enjoy!

Welcome!
-We have a few Easter Eggers. One lays a blue eggs, and the other lays a pale moss colored egg :)
They are such sweethearts, very tolerant of my 3 1/2 yo. We got them as chicks though, and I was pretty on top of making sure they were well socialized :) I was happy with the chick decision. I'll keep doing it that way.
You might get lucky with some sweet older pullets though. Maybe find them from someone who has a smaller flock and spends more time with them?

Hi coming from waxahachie texas
Welcome from a bit North, in McKinney! I have a friend down there! But I think she's more in Midlothian.

Almost forgot to mention, Fred (White Leghorn) found & ate a pretty good-sized frog last night. My husband tried chasing her 'round the yard to get her to let it go...but it was too late. Once she ate the frog, my husband said one of her wings was pushed out from the frog-sized lump in her gullet. He was a little concerned, but she seemed fine so he left her alone. Of course, she was fine, but that must have been an interesting event to watch...I wish he'd captured video, or at least took a pic. Ha-ha!

I found my missing RIR pullet. She somehow managed to get way up in the rafters of the coop. She also jammed herself face first in a tiny wedge at the very peak of the roof, she couldn't turn around! I think she was stuck up there for a while, poor thing. I got a ladder and got her down, she seemed in good health despite her little hide and seek adventure, lol.

Do any of y'all now of any Dominoque, Rhode Island Red, Easter Egger, Bantam Ginger Red OEG, Bantam Spangled OEG, or Bantam Buff Cochin breeders. Preferably around the DFW area. If the breeder has a good reputation of his birds I will take the drive out of DFW.

I know there is Neely Ranch in Waxahachie that has good reviews.
If you have a facebook, there are 2 groups you could look at:

Collin County Farm and Garden
and
Ellis County Poultry

Also, I don't know what part of Dallas you're in, but the D&L feed store in McKinney has Easter Eggers right now.
I've had a hard time finding breeders around here, at least with the breeds I'm looking for.
There's one I can't wait to give my money to

but he doesn't have any of those breeds.
