Lol! Ah well.
The broody one needs some time sitting anyway. The info you gave on the feed stores is pretty helpful. Hopefully they carry the breeds I want. Or maybe I can get them to order some on the next shipment.
Just tough to time young chicks and a broody. But I can't take a chance with roosters and hatching eggs since I'm in the city.

I know.

It's tricky with the limit and "no roos". I've had decent luck giving away 2 roos though.
I already have a feeling one of these chicks is a little cockerel. I think I'm going to try the collar and see if I can get away with it..lol. Worst case scenario: he gets re-homed anyway.

Roach Feed and Seed in Garland is having a "chicken Chat" on September 13th at 2. They will be having a chicken sale immediately after at about 3:15. Their flyer says to check their facebook page for breeds that will be available. If you want a pullet in a few weeks, I should have some Ameraucana/Auracana for sale. They are about 3-4 weeks now. I'm just growing them out to be sure I keep five girls. I have 16 total. They are all extremely tame.

Some are rumpless, yes..three rumpless ones are lavender, several are black, and I think the 5 'blue' ones are all ameraucanas. I'm still goofing off at work, so I'm going by memory.. . As best I can tell at this age they are clean faced, but I don't know for sure how young they start showing tufts. The ameraucanas are just showing their muffs a tiny bit..aside from having chipmunk cheeks! They look like miniature emus running around!! SO cute! I should get some pictures. They climb all over me when I go in their pen! LOL!

Update on my chicken adventure... Three out of four of my BR ladies are now laying consistently. Guess the fourth one is a late bloomer. 13 days ago I acquired two 1 year old SLWs and two 7month old EEs and have gotten one egg the whole time. The EE's aren't laying yet and just as I was beginning to think that my SLWs were duds, I go out to a crime scene of feathers everywhere. 1st thought, predator attack.... Nope. They're molting. lol Even with the hiccups, we've collected just over 2 dozen eggs from our girls since the first one laid. BRs are still in my A-frame tractor and the new ladies are housed in a temp enclouse made of chain link gates. My new hoop coop I'm building is coming along nicely and I aquired some milk crates to use as nesting boxes... so the ladies should be moving into their new digs soon. Hopefuly by this weekend

Excellant! They will probably start laying better when it cools off some. I have 13 mature hens plus six that are almost 6 months old and I'm only getting 5 - 6 eggs a day. My hens are falling apart too. Guess they are getting in new feathers for winter. Still eager to see your finished hoop coop.

I have a 50hr. work week and I sing for two local bands. Add to that a daughter in golf and band, a son in football and select baseball and a yr old grandbaby and you'll see why the coop is slow going... Not to mention, I'm winging it and making it up as I go lol
