He's adorable, but our neighbors would probably report us if we had a rooster crowing in our back yard.

Hey fellow Texas! I am from Round Rock. I'm starting my flock with 3 black sex-link chicks. Any advice for newbies?

We started our chicken journey last April, so we're still newbies ourselves. We've found that if you provide for their needs, give them some space, and be gentle with them that they pretty much raise themselves. We started with 3-month-old pullets though. Not sure about chicks...we have no experience with them. Good luck!

Our demo last night was great! It was a charity to raise money for homeless animals. Our trainer donated 2 classes to be auctioned off, and the money went to the charity. We were in an open area, no fences, close to a main road, and there were some very bad mannered pet dogs there. So I kept my girls on leash, just in case. Both girls did great and didn't need the leash, but better to be safe than sorry.

do you have large fowl or bantams? depending on where you are and what you have I may be able to sell you(for cheap) some hens and if you're interested the rooster I might be able to give a couple of hens for free

and it probably would not be a good idea to mix new chicks with new adults

Can anyone tell me if this silver and white chicken is a boy? What is telling you that. He doesn't have gold coming in on him or longer tail feathers that i see. Im just trying t make sure before i rehome him.

id say so!!! ive gotta rooster at our ranch that was supposed to be a hen from mypetchicken that is the same breed and he looked just like that he is a Delaware

agreed. those slender, shiny feathers right behind his wings say rooster. They are called sickle feathers, and they are a rooster trait. Not all roos get gold, or even long feathers. Especially some of the heavier breeds like orpingtons and cochins. In fact, some roosters don't even get sickle feathers. They are called "hen feathered". The only breed like that I am aware of is seabrights, but it looks like you definitely have a rooster.

Found these hidden away in in the flower bed. Guess Princess stashed these away this Summer with the other two girl's help. Since there are no white eggs it was probably after I rehome the brown leghorns. I did not bother to test them. They were sorta stinky.
