I need to figure out how to keep my girls off my porch. They have been free roaming from the beginning so I think it would be hard for me to keep them fenced up in their chicken yard, but I am really tired of them preening and pooping on my porch. Any ideas?

TRy putting one of those fake owls near the porch. Works to keep them out of my garden when I don't want them in there.

I'm going to try that!

I can manage to keep a path clear to the doorway by putting a bright striped beach towel in front of it. So long as there is no hay on the towel, they avoid it for some reason?? Keeps my husband happy anyway..

Had to share.

My 5 day old granddaughter.
Oh, this melts my heart.

I have a few months to figure it out. Eight foot fence high enough to keep them in?
Hi lady! Congrates on your new family member!! So exciting.
Wish we could see our grandkids more often than once a year...they grow up soooo fast.

As for keeping chickens in...we got the 6 foot deer fence and no one has been able to fly over it so far. That may work for you.

Perhaps they see the bright colors and stripes as a threat like a striped snake. My old parrot tried to kill striped socks! Will try that to see if they stay out of my garden when the gate is open.

Thanks. No matter if I go 6 or 8 feet I have to contend with trees. So I will need to cut and wire the fencing back together around the branches. Plan on hiring someone to help us. DH and I probably won't be able to do this kind of work for awhile. Looking forward to not having chicken poop on the porch.

...I'm confused lol
I'm trying to tell the gender. The breed is usually really easy to sex, males feather in much darker than females.
But since their from a hatchery..their coloring isn't up to par..I think have some really dark pullets :/

I'm 99% sure my EEs are female, and at least one Australorp..
The Russians are a toss up. No idea on those babies

So sorry for your loss. What a sweet tribute to her life.

I'm sorry for your loss as well. I know you were her mommy at one point too :(

I also got two faverolle pullets a week or so after you from Ideal and they look pretty much the same in coloring as yours. I would also say I wouldn't recommend them in a mixed flock. I had to separate them from the other 7 as they are smaller and not as assertive and they aren't feathering in as fast so I was afraid of them being picked on. The mix is not particularly pushy birds either- orps, brahmas and EEs
