Texas

I think I introduced myself but if not we live in Spring Branch between Bulverde and Blanco, TX. We have 2 Miniature Australian dogs, 2 outside cats and a flock of peafowl. Also Gracie & Gunther, our 2 six month old Black Australian swans I hatched.

Have any of you with waterfowl found a good water source for your birds to swim in? I'm presently using the large kiddie pool but looking for a large water trough with a drain on the bottom which I know doesn't exist. Drains are down low on a side but not low enough to hose out all the muck. Any suggestions?

I think it's stated on unitedpeafowlassociation.org there are over 160 different color variations of peafowl (peacocks). I have India Blue, Pied, Silver Pied, Cameo and White. Also have 3 of the Green species, 1 male and 2 females.

I don't have waterfowl (yet), but in my reading/preparing (ducks next year maybe), I was planning to get a large Rubbermaid stock tank. They have drains at the bottom. They have one that's 300 gallons, and is sort of oval-ish and is about 6x6ft. (I know because it wouldn't fit in the back of my SUV - we measured - I'll have to go back when my roof rack is back on my car...)

LOL - people at hardware, lumber, feed stores, etc. are always freaking out at the things I manage to cram into, on top of, or through windows, of our vehicles and still manage to get home. We carry tie downs and bungee cords all the time, just in case.

I'm usually very, VERY determined - I've done amazing things with my 4Runner. LOTS of lumber miracles lately (building a new coop). They look at me and I say, "Yes, it will fit, I've done this before." The headrest for the passenger seat is generally permanently removed, and I tend to drive while holding the pile of lumber that is extending to the windshield from the passenger window over to the center console. I drive slowly, home, of course...

But the lip on this stock tank made it just a hair too wide to go inside (too deep to turn diagonal enough), and I had taken off the roof rack (why, I don't remember). Roof rack will go back on and I'll be tying it down when I get it.

HAHAHAHA! Sounds so familiar! Glad to know there are other folks out there doing seemingly impossible things.

I cannot believe this. I had a long reply typed out explaining about why muck can't be hosed out of the trough you mention, etc; etc; and my darn computer shut down for updates without letting me know it was going to so all was lost. Need to get back to bed before I'm to awake so will have to cover my points later. Reason I'm up at 4 AM is helping a White peachick (peacock chick) out of the shell which is tedious and can take hours. Sometimes their pip hole is to large and the membrane around them dries out keeping them from turning to zipe the shell open. It has to be peeled back very slow over long period to let the blood vessels dry out and the chick needs to struggle some so it will absorb the yolk. I'm so happy I have another White and 3 India Blue peachicks only a week old for this one to be with so they will have companions when sold to a new home. I never sell a chick by itself........they need a buddy to grow up with.

Glad I'm not the only crazy person using my car to haul things, have a Hyundia Accent hatchback. Last load was a 6' fiberglass ladder, 6 - 2"x3"x8's, plus some hardware, on top of 3 50# sacks of feed indgredients, a new drill and groceries. No point driving into town multiple times. Plus driver and passenger and still having the hatch latch shut.

An old hot tub/spa might work, I think they have drains on the bottom. I know people try to get rid of them cheap once the pump breaks down.

That's true, but you get use to it. I remember hearing them as a child from a neighbor's. Currently live near neighbors with donkeys. At first their braying scared the crap out of me.
Yes, but I don't need a well meaning neighbor with a shotgun coming to rescue a damsel in distress.

I have gone to a gun range with a donkey 700 yards away from the range. When the course of fire cleared, despite hearing protection, you could hear him bray loud and clear. Donkey's are indeed very loud.

Hello, long time lurker, first time poster (<---lame! ). My wife and I are new to the whole chicken scene and have four girls that are 2 weeks old. We're in Austin and I'm hoping to connect with someone to see if I can get some meal worms or even black soldier flies so we can raise some delicious treats for our ladies. I'm more than happy to buy them too, of course.

Welp, just wanted to introduce myself and say "hey". Hey!
