Buna, home of the Texas Redbud Festival! Welcome to BYC, hope you plan on sharing pictures and updates on your chicken barn!!

Hi to all fellow Texans... I'm new to BYC and addicted to this site already. My name is Donnie and I live in Buna,Texas. I raise brangus cattle and have a few barbado sheep. I have several chickens (marans, barred rocks, white leghorns) I just ordered 24 black sex link chicks that I hope to get around the first part of March. I also have a few lavender guineas running around on the farm too. I recently had some pine trees cut and hauled them to the saw mill. I had some lumber cut and started myself a new chicken barn, 24x16. Chickens are addicting...

Give me a shout, if ya have time. I enjoy chatting, especially about poultry, livestock, exotic animals, hunting, fishing or about anything other than politics... lol most politicians are not worth my valuable time.

Talk to yall later.

The TSCs have chicks in now? Does anyone know if they have ducklings?

TCS in Denton often does have ducks, once they had turkeys as well. I was in there Saturday (2/25/12) and they still don't have any chicks but said they thought that would have been there already. Maybe they arrived today and I just didn't make it into town to see about them.

I was in atwoods here in Tyler today and they had ducklings, goslings, and guinuea chicks, in addition to their chicks. If there is one close by to you, you may want to give them a call

It looks as if my chickens felt sorry for me after yesterdays accidental first egg crushing incident. Here' the first multi-egg day and the first eggs that actually made it to the kitchen.

Enjoy those eggs Henry....they will be the BEST!! After eating home grown eggs, those store bought ones will never taste good!!! You're spoiled now!
Of course now you'll want to have MORE chickens, they are more addictive than potato chips!!

I cooked up one today for lunch and left the other to cook for my wife for breakfast. I cooked a store-bought along side to compare... Huge difference. Better taste, thicker white, very orange yolk...I'm hooked

. We lived in town when we moved back to Texas 19 years ago. The kids were 4&5 and stopped eating eggs, when I asked them why the didn't want eggs for breakfast anymore, they said "Because they don't taste right"

. We'd had hens for several years at our last base and I didn't think about the kids being able to tell the difference. We've had at least a few hens every since, now we have more than a few and the grand kids are learning the same lesson. Papa has lots of help feeding his chickens and gathering (and eating) eggs.
