Anyone here have any experience de-spurring a rooster? My 6 year old, Mr. Feathers, has spurs that are about 6 inches long and he's having a LOT of trouble walking. I need to get these shortened or removed.

Not personal experience, but search on BYC - I saw a description and a video where you take hold of the spur with a pair of needle nose pliers and gently twist back and forth until the outer sheath of the spur pops loose. What's left is still spur-shaped, but a lot shorter. Minimal bleeding (but you can have styptic powder on hand in case). Looked straight forward and painless. That's how I'm going to do it when/if I have to.

Thank you so much. I will check it out but the last 3 Pyrs we have had were from rescue. We gave always had G. Pyrs. We never had a problem with them staying home until we tried rescue. I'm wanting to get a puppy right off the momma so we have a better chance of it bonding and not being a socialite.

They have some puppies right now. They took in a pregnant dog from an out of state rescue. I just saw the photos of them this week when she took them to the chicken yard to see how they did.
