Texas

No not different laws, just people who don't follow them. I'd report him but I know he has hit on hard times. We worked it out. I am now the proud owner of a gorgeous Phoenix roo! He said it was the best he could get by trading some of his birds.

Which on that note, does anyone know where to get phoenix hens? I'd gladly trade some easter egger, rhode island red, buff orpington, cornish game, and maybe some cuckoo maran and wellsummer later on for a pair. I don't want him alone as he is so sweet with the mutt hens I have him in with and he only fussed at the other roosters. (I was worried because my neighbor and I thought he may have come from a fighting background. His comb is trimmed off and so are his wattles.)

And welcome to the newbie! I tried to quote you but it didn't work. Over in Granbury myself. And flooded. My yard looks like a giant bowl of chicken soup!

Hard times are hitting a lot of people. I am sorry for him and his family.

I hope you can find some hens for your Phoenix. Snap a picture when you can.

I just joined BYC last week and found this thread today. There are certainly a lot of people from Texas here. Anyway, just thought I'd say hi. I'm NW of San Antonio near Bandera.

Welcome from Red Rock.

Our Texas Sage is blooming. I have always heard that means the rain is ending.
Such a pretty and tough plant! It does amazing things when rained upon!
!
Had it when I lived in Desert Hot Springs (CA) and see it in the Big Bend country -- this is one tough plant. Had a darker variety with dark green leaves and dark purple flowers and at Lowe's the other day saw one with white flowers.

Heard that some people have lost a lot of chickens to drowning (sad) --

Here is my puddle -- most of the time this is dry land (or should I say WAS)

And!! some of my grow out Silverudd's Blue Isbars, Isabelle Leghorns and Legbars playing in the rain -- silly chickens!!

Hope everyone weathers it through. I wish for moderation -- seeing the watering tanks dry up and things die and shrivle on the ranch during those awful drought years -- Just moderation would be nice -- hope we don't go into a drought to balance all this water. JMO.

Hang in there everyone.

ETA - those mosquito dunk - doughnut things DO work -- well -- expensive $9.99 for 6 at WalMart -- but they do kill the larvae and don't harm other aquatic creatures and don't poison the water.... you need 1 dunk per 100 sq ft of surface area on the water -- which could be a lot of dunks -- also other standing water..... now's the time to protect from swarms of mosquitos later.

I know I talked to someone about buying some of their buff orpingtons, but I can't remember who and can no even figure out how to get to the private messages. I will try after this week end is over.
Those who know my story, know my 97 year old Mother has lived with me for about 6 years. May 28th she had stroke, at her age life ending stroke. We were able to keep her home an comfortable until she went to be Our Lord yesterday morning. Her funeral will be today, the day we had a gathering planned to celebrate Mom's 98 birthday. Life is what happens while you are busy making plans.
Tomorrow we have a baby shower for my daughter who is having a baby girl in August (Mom's birth month). She will be named Ruby E. After her great grandmother.
Live is beautiful.

Quote: They DO work - you're reminding me that I need to go put more out. My yard has excellent draining, but finally got so saturated that I got standing water yesterday. I hope it dries out next week - my chickens haven't gotten sick, but I'm holding my breath, it's been so hard to keep things dry.

Those Isabelle leghorns are so beautiful!!!!

Thanks FAF - the Isabelles (Isabels) are growing up nicely.

X2 Hensfortherapy, sorry for you loss -- how wonderful that your mother was with you for such a long time and as you say life happens while you are planning -- How great that the name is going to your grand-daughter. Your attitude toward life is wonderful.
