Nooooooooo!!!! How could you say that? I am so tempted to get out there, but it would really muck our yard up plus wet grass is hard on the mower. sigh....lol, we got to mow today, woo hoo!
Ken and I were given a jar of Muscadine Jelly. First time we ever had it. Good! My son's friend gave us some muscadine plants. I have them in a large pot waiting to be planted.Muscadine jelly. That has been a long time.
Yep, look like the summer pattern has returned. We will feel the heat and dryness for the next 10 days. At least, no more muddy ground and the chicken can scratch now. Watch out for hole in chick cage that snake can get in; I lost a few like this so far.Sunshine, heat and a FREAKIN chicken snake today in Red Rock.![]()

Heard about a flock of chickens herding a rattle snake into the woods away from their owner -- kind of a cool story.-- Couldn't find that video - it was a team effort by the old hens -- cool to watch.Ugh. Not ready for snake season. I got 2 Guinea hens and I think I am going to buy 2 peacocks to put in my pen to try and discourage them from coming in...
Maybe try Craigs list, or a local feed store bulletin board... you could also check your local paper and even put a wanted ad at your feed store or in your paper. Barring success from that -- try to contact someone around who has chickens -- like people who sell roadside eggs. Although they don't usually want to part with their chickens -- it could be that you could get a laying hen that way. Good luck with your quest -- and let us know about your success with it.Does anyone near Liberty Hill, north of Austin have a couple laying hens they would like to rehome? I am more than willing to buy them. I promise to only let then free range when I am outside with them,as I really am not sure if a hawk or a stray dog got my last two.
I was not able to make the auction this past Sunday in Briggs. I really would like to have a couple of layers and not brood chicks.
My brother's graveside service was beautiful. Military honors. All he would have wanted. Taps, gun salute and presentation of our flag to his sons. Thank you to the Color Guard that executed it flawlessly with honor and grace.
