Texas

I am waiting on my retirement paperwork to clear. I have a permanent disabled placard that little old ladies natter over when my wife and kids get out of the car until my wife retrieves my walker. I guess in their opinion only the obviously geriatric can be disabled. They remind me of the Church Lady from SNL only older and prissier.

I am glad you can keep your sense of humor. Some people won't ever get it.

You and your family are in my prayers.

I have 3 RIR and there 20 and a half weeks old waiting for the first egg, I already switch to laying fed with them and been giving them grits also but every time I go out side I hear them make a loud noise like there mad and want something. I wish I could describe the noise better for ya'll, I let them free roam a little bit but most of time there in there chicken run/coop. Plz help

They might not like grits.

If it is that crabby squwak, it does sound like they are mad. I think they are feeling uncomfortable while their hormones are getting them ready for their first egg. There isn't anything you can do - except fluff up the shavings in the nest box and just wait. Good luck with it. That noise may go away once they are regularly laying.

thanks I hope so to

Be sure to let us know if it kind of lessens. I know sometimes mine are walking around crabby and squwaking - and after their daily egg -- they go back to normal chicken behavior. Do they have red red combs and faces? 20 weeks should be just about there, but I haven't had RIRs ever.

Oh, if they go into the nest box and 'play house' that is another sign that they are getting ready within a few days or a week..... if you go to pick one up and they flatten and spread their wings....if you pick them up and look at the vent...there are descriptions of what to look for -- that and the width between their pelvic bones is probably the best indicator. (I just go by comb--lazy I guess).
