Elayne, you might try an Austin-area backyard chickens meet-up site to re-home your roos. Also, try listing them on the BYC forum for 'animals to be re-homed. Be sure to put your City/State in the title so folks know exactly where you are, and good luck.
Re: pelleted shavings, TSC has them. They are pine pellets, which expand upon coming into contact with water, or, in my barn, horse pee
I imagine they'd be tough on chicken feet if being used as the only bedding, since they are pretty hard pellets until wet. I use them in my stall in my gelding's pee spot, then cover with standard large flake shavings.
