Texas

New weekend project now, TSC for another 50' of 1x4 welded wire fencing and dusting off the brand new sawzall to harvest old 4x4's, and landscaping timbers to make a run expansion against a pre-existing 6 foot tall chain link fence per bleeding hearts orders. Beech time is cancled for some deconstruction work as I am too mean to let my 2 unplanted 4x4x12's be cut down to 6 foot lengths. Good news is by using to old lumber I will not need to hit the lumber yard and neighbor tossed me 5 agave plants to get in the ground for additional cover inside the run at maturity those babies spread 1yard wide from their center and can toss in some of those random upside down looking christmass trees(Cook's or Norfolk Pines depends how they screw) too, eclectic. Those agave babies are sharp I pity the raptor who hits an agave leaf at speed. Will see if I incorporate some prickly pears too to keep at least a bit of native semblance. Additionally I have a should have been depupped 8 years ago large native aloe to add border accents for a good 50+ft run and springtime flowers. All this for some silkies.

Will figure out run sqft once the concrete is all dried from the posts.

Oppsie, cashier at TSC sold me a 100 foot roll this morning. Oh well there is always next project......I thought dang I got a better deal last time as I was driving off. Measured off a 50x20 plus some trapezoidal thing that looked right to the eye for the addition. Now I get to go run around the yard like a madman with a chainsaw dropping those posts from the previous owner's bad ideas in landscaping and I got a bigger run! Stakes are set for the line, bleeding heart already has the agave in(she did ask where they needed to go I said wherever Dali or Picasso wants em). This is going to be a fun project that never ends until she reminds me she really wants me to get that Stable built, erm, finished.

I saw this at the hardware store and bought it for my foreman/workman. It isn't because he is stupid at all he asked me how many this was(measuring and had his thumb covering anything on that tape) and grew up basically fatherless. Someday he is going to graduate to read a real carpenters tape measure as I do like teaching him.

And for the highly advanced amoung us I bet there there is a youtube video for education too.

Late Edit and follow on Post- Turns out my guy was just told by teacher he needed a simple tape measure of 25 feet for the school he is attending over summer anyway. What an odd coincidence. I just might need to consider the power of healing crystals some day.

Chicken got some treats coming in the morning! Guess I'll get the BT sprinkler going in the morning. Have a bag of Dipel for these fun guys in the AM.

I'm sorry the last few days or week, Seems things have gone 1 siided at times. I am a 50+ year old man who wants to teach. And am here today probably preaching to the choir.

Also, I just came back from HEB- my stores are all getting those new walmart scanner thingie kiosks. Glad 90% of the community here are standing behind our checkers. When I was standing in line I saw more HEB checkers getting cross-trained on the machines than I saw customers using them.

Stand up for the death of an american thing, and a Texas Tradition!

Curious to know if anyone is around the Atascosa county area but don't really feel like going through all 44,624 messages right now. :D
I used the search function and searched for 'Atascosa' and saw 12 results with that word.
Not sure if any of those 12 people are still active though.

Thinking Im 3.5 hours from there. Anything more is what I call an all day trip and hopefully I won't taste any chicago in my Whataburger.

Texas things deserve proper punctiation, I love Aggie colors and have only one UT workshirt in my closet. Just in case I can't get any more anoying there is this I was actually born within Dallas city limits and am the only true Texan in my family my sisters and birth parents are all foreigners.

I do have a question for the more experienced chicken keepers out there as I'm getting closer to the three year mark in keeping myself. That is do I really need to be wary of inbreeding as I might breed out a few silkies, these aren't really dogs so I'm thinking inbreeding has always been a chicken thing. I might keep a roo or two but am heavily leaning towards keeping/breeding the sighted ones. The ones with puffy ball heads aren't sighted roos to me, additionally, I don't want to be breaking broodies all day long as they are going to have enough free range space in their run at 1500 and change sq ft in the run. I'm thinking I'll have a enough space for more once I get to reducing my roos down later and sending em to their own bachelor digs with 1500 sqft already in situ all that spot needs is my sawzall and a door to be built for the 7 or so roos that are headed that way.

In unrelated Texas news, seems all my overwintering Kiskadees have moved on to permanant water sources, we have said good bye to our whistling duck pairs, and the woodpeckers are no longer at the cat food dish. It seems summer is here. At least we will always have our green jays.
