Is that an Isba (sp?) Hound in your pic? Such an elegant dog. Welcome!!!!!
yes he is an ibizan hound and you hearby get points for getting it right =] most ppl think he is a whippet or greyhound! thank you we have a show this weekend so i hope the judge agrees with you

I'm originally from Pennsylvania, transplanted in Central Texas 20 years ago. I'm raising Buff Orps, Australorps, and some Turkeys. I'm looking for a breeder quality Buff Orp or Australorp Rooster. All mine are hatchery birds and I want to upgrade my future flock. Anyone in the Killeen/Temple/Waco/Austin area who has some or knows where I can find some, Let me know. I'm also looking for shows or swap meets or auctions in the area that deal with high quality poultry.

Besides Plenty of shade and more shade, here's my solution to the heat. Lost no fluffy breeder quality Orpingtons last year during the 110 degree days whatsoever.

They love to wade in this water to cool off, and I often see birds standing in it during the heat of the day.

Also the coop is completely open to the south but covered in wire, and has very large windows in the east and west walls.

I raised six bantams from Atwoods this spring just for fun. The only problem is that now some have started crowing. I'm located inside the city of Tyler in east texas and need the crowing ones to go. Currently have a silkie roo and a oegb roo. Thought i had the oegb sold but haven't heard back from the lady in nearly a week. pm me for more info. Thanks

In other news, how's everyone holding up this summer?

has anyone tried to make a list of poultry breeders in our state? i think that could be useful for people looking for specific breeds and not wanting to order from hatcheries in bulk.

Hi Henry! Sorry to hear of your rooster problems! I guess that's part of raising chicks though. I have 10 Dominique chicks right now and I know 6 of them are roos. Oh well...

Are the hens you got from me still laying for you? Just interested to know...

Thank you everyone for the support. This will be my first summer with chickens, so I am now a nervous wreck. This north Texas heat gets to all animals.

My husband has put his foot down, about building a coop with ac. I have got to keep in mind that all livestock has been exsisting for thousands of years, in all types of weather. I can do my best to keep them comfortable and healthy, but things happen.
I appreciate all the support when I lost my Columbine Wynadotte to the dang Texas heat. Well it's not getting any better in my yard. I have add poultry eltrolites to the water of all my girls. Making minty Icee pops for them. Ice jugs in the water tubs, fans- less grains and more eggs, fruit and greens and large water bottels wrapped in towels for them to roost on.. Tarps for shade. I have two month old, White Faced Black Spanish Pullets that are lethargic one won't even stand. I have been eye dropper the treated water, she just lets it drip out of her mouth. These two girls were not let to free range like all my other girls- they were fast and could fly to the roof-very hard to catch. So they weren't near my other girl that died. the girls that were with my Wyandotte are all perky and healthy.

The Spanish girls being sick has my husband upset-these were his girls. He was actually the one that wanted this breed, even though it put us over the limit of chickens we can have. They have their own coop and run.

I am not sure what else we can do. Once they go into decline with this heat is there any thing we can do to bring them out of it??

I love that ibizan hound! looks a bit like my Indian pariah dog. My dogs a rescues. Hes a former street dog from New Delhi India... seriously... we shipped him all the way from India to the US. ;)

He should have two upright ears... but his flops down cause someone broke the cartilage in his ear.. prolly by yanking on it :(

beauty and that doesnt surprise me at all lol some people do that with ibizans and their cousins in spain because after hunting season thousands are dumped or brutally murdered not all hunters are that way but enough that the shelters overflow =/ if i had the money i would do it one day i plan to go there and pick up a female to add blood into the US lines and try and bring some rescues back to the US for rehoming.

Ok i have 2 3month olds that will need a new home soon..... they are both crested, one male houdan and one buff? Female. I love them both but the houdan freaks my DW out! Lol Cookie (m) just looks like a puppet from "Laberynth" so says DW.... lol chicken nugget on the other hand well shes just a doll! I love goin out back and looking at the tall weeds just to see her little fluffy fro bobbing back and forth! I got them as a pair and i cant seperate them... they have stuck together since the day we got them!
PM me if interrested. I can email pics if needed. Thanks!
