Lucky number 7! Are we hoping for 7 pullets? Or do you want another flock protector?

Have a few eggs under the broody at the moment.
Yes it is a straight run of Blue Sumatra so a little of both. I only have silkie roosters and they will do nothing to protect the flock so they are getting "redundancied out". Wife misses having our Sumatra roos and wanted more varied colors to name. I am hopeful that I will not have temperament issues as they will be forced to integrate with my current established flock and work their way up.

Hi all. Checking in. Looks like it wants to rain today...hope it will...everything around here is so green finally. I ordered some more chicks that should arrive around the 15th. Got more Easter eggers ... I love the colored eggs. Had to order 8 but don't want that many so I might be finding homes for a few.

How's everyone?

Hot! I did not order summer this early and have flower beds to address.

Have a broody sitting on Barnyard Surprise eggs. Candling tonight to see how many are developing. Much easier to let her handle the hard work.

I wish I had thought about getting some eggs....I've had 3 broody hens that I have had to crate to get them to stop. One had started to pull out her chest feathers before I got her out of there. Good luck.

It has been hot. We've had a lot of rain in the RGV in the last few weeks....which has revealed roof leak issues that I am having taken care of now...not what I was wanting to spend money on right now. Oh the joys of of home ownership.

Sorry about the roof leak. Good to find it earlier rather than later. I had one panel rotting with no sign of a leak. Got replace the last reroof. The patch jobs were holding, amazingly enough.

Yes, I enjoy watching the broody hens raise the chicks. They end up wild and untamed but slowly come around. Where the hand reared chicks speak mealworm amazingly well. :D

We have a flat roof with a cedar shingle facade around it. The roof is new but the cedar shingles are shot and out of my budget so I went with what I put on the chicken coop to make everything match. Eventually I want to up up the PVC shingles that look like cedar but I thought this was a cool, inexpensive fix for now. Plus it makes everything seem to go together...what came first...the coop or the house???

First pic is the before, second the now..

Craigslist brownsville has never failed me for my rehoming needs. They go fast down here. Just don't ask questions. Additionally, tossing the dead over the back fence and returning them to nature works fast too(my go to theory for free rangers), unless DW named them and wants to bury them. I make her dig those holes.

I had to relocate a Texas Tortise(was in a hurry so no photos) yesterday as it was blocking the driveway on our way to Don Johnson Jeep so they could fix a small issue of turning my 4x4 into a full time 4x2.
I suspect it was coming on to the property following the scent of those ripe prickly pear tunas. I just moved it about a yard from where I found it since it crawled in under the gate there. I was the least skittish wild reptile I have ever handled.

I can just imagine what happens to CL chickens. I'll pass. I have a friend that will take them but there is a lady that wants a couple so I may discount them and sell them to her.

AllenK....did i pee on you? I had a small one in my yard a while back and when I picked it up it peed a gallon...glad I had my arms outstetched.

Nope no pee at all it didn't even fully retract into its shell. The moment it had touchdown into the tall grass it was off to the races. I will admit I had to show it to my wife as she was backing out because I was slow at opening the gate and looking mentally challenged otherwise to her without a valid excuse. :)
