Can anyone tell me about feeding the American Beautyberry fruits to chickens. I know some say they are toxic to goats. I found a couple of comments on this site about them., but I was wondering if they are toxic to humans could something be passed along in the eggs.

My free-range lot is full of beautyberry bushes. The birds' favorite resting spot is under a big one. They never touch the berries. That's enough for me to say, don't.

Hey Everyone! Hope the summer has treated your flocks better than last summer. I'm currently working on a 8 year- plan (I'm 25) to get my wife and I mortgage free. I am going this weekend to look at a 7 acre heavily wooded piece of property. Plan is to purchase and use on-property resources and a chainsaw lumbermill to build a small (300 sq ft) cabin that we can live in while we work on building a larger "cordwood masonry" home or log cabin. We will be able to rent the cabin as a "b&b" type place. Keep me in your prayers. I'll keep everyone updated on the process.

Thanks for the response. I have lots of them as well, but my chickens are not free range and I was not sure. I had read that quail eat them.

Although not chicken related I would love to see pictures of your progress when you start building. PM me since it's not chicken related.

I have seen bluebirds eating them.

New member from Allen, TX. I'm brand new to the concept of backyard chickens, and would describe myself as being in an "exploratory" stage.

Anybody else from the area?

Thanks!
