I cannot decide-boy or girl. Only rir I have so nothing to compare to. She is standing "up" because they heard a strange sound, all of them were in this posture

I'll lean to pullet. The cockerels get real red at 12 weeks and I'd expect more comb growth from a RIR.

Seems he would be trying to crow if it is a cockerel. I feel pullet as well but the feathering has me questioning.

true. I've got a yard of 10 week olds trying to out crow each other. They are quail sized and I want them to get bigger. Otherwise, they've got to go.

In ya'lls opinion, how late in the year is too late to hatch chick's around here? We just got here, and I'm not able to start building a coop or anything for a little bit, so just trying to understand the climate and work on garden prep for a little while.

never too late. You do want them feathered before cold weather. Otherwise, protect them and keep them warm.

Do have the coop and brooder ready before getting into a crunch time. Otherwise, poop.

Yep. That about sums it up. Sometimes Feb is a little nippy. But seldom freezes here.

Looks like the poster is out west. They can get a little colder longer, so I didn't impose my weather on them.
