Look at the combs developing. The males tend to develop quicker when looking at combs. Starts being obvious after you've watched chicks grow several times.

Males will also be braver (stupider) and dash about exploring while the females are hanging back or following. Until they are 6 months, chickens have 3 sexes. Male, female and no clue. So odds are that you have one of each. :lau

After 6 months, you will have 2 sexes. About to lay an egg and gumbo. Trust me on the gumbo. Having a yard full of crowing cockerels will make everyone want gumbo.
I love my yard full of gumbo. I think I have 15 or 16 crowing. My neighbors would probably prefer I cook gumbo but they knew I had roosters when they bought the place.

They do grow on you, don't they? The mature ones calm down. Having 15 adolescents trying to outdo each other will give you a constant barrage.

Most of the neighbors say they don't notice. One neighbor loves it since it reminder her of her childhood. Crazy Lady is ready for gumbo before I am. Of course, she's at home listening to them while I'm playing with adults at work.

I had one crow right on my heels. He did not make a friend.
