Texas

I wish the rest of the country could have weather like this! Got the garden ready for planting turnip greens, lettuce, cabbage, new potatoes......Growing lots of corn this year too $$$ Makin me ready for Spring! Have a great day Texans!!

Had to go back to that thread to check the date. The 1st post was 10-20-08 and the 1st 2 birds were 18 weeks old.
Only problem I have had so far is hatching so many boys last year. And having some red color bleed on the wings of a couple of splash boys and a blue boy. The mystery just up and dying thing could still be on the way I know but I have had them over a year now and not lost one bird to known or unknown causes. Chicks hatch with no help. Working on egg color and getting more splash silkied is my plan right now.

These are the 1st 3 hatched from a split.

You have some beautiful birds. If you ever start selling hatching eggs please let me know!

now do all the offspring carry this gene if both parents do?

If both parents are silkied, all chicks will be silkied. If one parent is silkied and one split to silkied you can get both silkied and splits. If one parent is silkied and one does not carry the gene, the chicks will all be split to silkied but not actually look silkied.

That's pretty. I pulled up tomato plants a couple of days ago that still had blooms on them.

I just weighed three more emu eggs (#4 was broken when it arrived). They will go in the incubator later on once they warm up to room temperature.

They were lost in the mail for several days. Should have been here on the 17th.. didnt arrive until today. For some reason the Austin mail hub tends to be a black hole when it comes to shipments heading here.. they get there and disappear for days at a time. I have no idea why

So I will consider myself lucky if any of these hatch.. they are probably scrambled and since they are emu eggs I can't candle them to see what condition they are in.
