of course.. girls are tough.. i had to hold heads down when my mom would swing the ax.. and I was only 3 (learned to count my fingers real quick.. lol)

What did you use to make the frame?

Got the Texas Sized Chicken Tractor framed up...Elvis is checking the hinges on the door for me, to see if they are welded on properly. lol Now gonna go find a couple of their old ride-on toys to rob some wheels off of.

EMT (Electrical Metallic Tubing) conduit. My son is an Electrician and had a couple of bundles left over from a job. Worked out pretty well.

No, she sits calmly watching them, but she keeps throwing me glances, like, "Mo-om-m-m." I can't let her run free in the yard though since it's unfenced and she will run off down the road. Since she's only 5 lbs, she is subject to being picked off by the neighborhood hawk. This morning at 6 we had a huge owl checking out the chicken pen. But for her action with the chickens, she's always been really good with them but there's been a fence between them. She used to peer over the top of the brooder box and I swear they think she's their mother. They always run toward her.

Mine do the same thing! The grown hens will often follow her around like she is leading them someplace wonderful!

I can fully understand about not being able to let her run around without a fence. Mine only get to run loose inside the fenced area and only while I am there with them. Even without wanting to keep an eye on their interactions with the chickens I worry about them getting gobbled up by something. They are only 6lbs each so there are plenty of predators that could get them if they wanted to.

Always acting so calm and curious with them and not jumping or getting excited I think she'd probably do good with them. I'd just take it in baby steps at first to get a good feel for how they all like each other.

Tell me about it. Glad I have such heavy tree coverage in my back yard so my new clover sprouts didn't get dusted with frost. The coops out on the north side of the house, though, were heavily frosted this morning and their water was partially frozen. Put out warm water and molasses-milk warm mash for them. Brrrr **shivers** Kept telling my husband we should expect another cold snap or two - esp come the end of the month. We always seem to get one more freeze before winter really lets go.
