Texas

Do you know the age on them? I've got to pick up feed Friday from the coop.
They are about 5 to 6 months old the last batch I got were just starting to lay, you put your name on the list and when they get about 75 birds they order them. I've never got a sick bird only great hens so far the only thing is they have been debeaked which I don't like and they don't know to run or fly off but they learn pretty quick!

I think that's what the $12.50 Production Reds from our feed store are... culls from egg farms. I bought two last year that laid OK but eggs were medium size.
The ones I have gotten are young pullets that ate just starting to lay small eggs at first then as they grow I have been getting large eggs for about a year now. Between my best friend and I we've gotten about 40 or 50 birds from them. Like I said these are coming from producers co-op in Seguin. They ate a great feed store and I buy almost all of my feed from them and Alex the manager there is great to deal with!!! I started my small business selling sausage seasonings and he has been the only one who was willing to put it in his store.

Looked out the window this morning toward my coops - and, what do I see, but - big as day - a hawk sitting on the ground next to the coop just eyeballing the wire and trying to figure out how to get around it. My husband has been a skeptic about needing to put tops on my runs. This morning made him a believer. That hawk went from coop to coop looking for any weaknesses. The chickens all went and hid in the solid structure (they aren't stupid

) and the hawk eventually flew away empty clawed. Confirmation that solid construction wins (and, that my husband should always listen to me

).
