Ok the spray? DW was thinkin bathing them with the baby shampoo and then dusting them after they dry... i was going to dust the pens thuroughly(SPELL CHECK!) This weekend anyway but you said the DE wont kill the mites? Fudge! What about soapy water? Guess im goin off to the feed store....

the mites can get into every crack and crevice of the coop.. I have heard of people on here who had to burn their coops because they couldn't get rid of them..

here are a few links:

even once you kill the adults you're going to have to retreat to get any new ones that have hatched..

Got a question I have one of my chicks that isn't growing she eats but just stands under the light and only moves to get a drink or get a bite to eat. Other than that she just stands there. I have been giving them the green gel vitamin pack every three days, any advice cause I'm scared I'm gonna loose her!

How old is it?... it may be a "failure to thrive" chick.. i would try upping it's protein a bit (hard boiled egg finely chopped or some game bird starter)

I've never used the gro gel.. so not sure what all is in it

I use Adams Flea Spray

. It has to be the Adams though it comes in a blue bottle and they carry it at HEB. It is safe to use on the birds as well as their coop and run. I hold the bird upside down by it's ankles then let it relax. It will go limp and spread it's wings and then you can spray it all over with out getting it in their eyes.

If you use a different brand or type they may get sick cleaning their feathers

She is 9 days old, I will try the hard boiled egg. Do you think this maybe just a doomed chick?

Could be - but, I've seen things others would call miracles and some would call magick...so don't give up unless you've exhausted all options - unless you're culling.

Never used grogel - but, in reading about it - there are not that many additional vitamins, mostly it's microorganisms that aid in the digestion of the food they are being fed.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind that can cause some pretty serious deficiencies: vitamin B and vitamin D are very important nutrients. Especially in a chick's early life. The same with protein. If she's not eating regularly, she is not helping herself any. She also needs balances of micronutrients like selenium, magnesium, phosphates, etc. Does she come out from the light to get a treat? When she walks, how does she walk? Like the others or differently? How's her weight look compared to the others. Since she's hardly moving, I'd expect she's probably smaller than the rest; but, that may not be the case. If you take her away from all the other chicks, how does she behave? Does she get more active? I had one in my last batch that just wanted to be away from all the others. Gave her a few days on her own and put her back in and she was fine after that.

What are you feeding her besides gro gel? The hard boiled egg is great - maybe add in some milk and some molasses (the rawer the better) along with some of her regular crumbles (I'm assuming you're using a starter crumble of some sort). The molasses is full - very full - of micro nutrients. Add in the carbs from the natural sugars, and she should get an energy boost, as well.

She has a few feathers starting on her wings but is half the size of the others and it seems like she walks kinda stiff legged. Don't remember the exact brand but they are all on the medicated starter crumbles. Grandpa went and bought the "good stuff" as he called it.

Any of these, other than the stiffness, seem to be accurate?

Symptoms: Lameness. Then lethargy and reluctance to move, hock joints swollen with cream-color fluid, stiff gait, weight loss, blisters on breast.
