Texas

Just got my coup moved in place, so gotta start getting that ready for the babies. need to cut some windows, make some nest boxes and roosts.....yeah got a couple things left yet

Your doin a lot better than me, I've got to build a new house for fifty girls and I haven't even started yet! But I have a month to do it before the little ones can go outside, but if worse comes to worse I can always fence off a little section of the big barn for them

Hello, I am a fellow chicken lover in the venus area of texas. I currently only have two members in my flock, but I plan to add more in the future. I have a gorgeous salmon faverolle roo and hen. The rooster crowed for the first time this morning. He sounded wonderful. They are both about four months old and i got them only a week ago. I am currently looking for two or three more hens close to laying age to put in with them to keep DH happy while I raise some chicks to put in with them later. I saw a gorgeous yokohama hen the other day on CL but she was gone by the time I found the add, I was so sad. Anyone else ever had faverolles in texas? I am curious as to how they do down here. The breeder I got them from was starting her first flock as well and was just trying to sell off the extra roosters she had. Also, if anyone in the venus area wants to split an order from a hatchery such as meyer, or mc murray I would love to!

Abby - one of the gals at my LFS breeds Salmon Favorelles and has for a while. So, I'd imagine they do just fine down here.

Thanks! I had heard mixed reports on them dealing with the heat. This is my first time having something other than and RIR, buff orpington, dominique or barred rock, so I wanted to get some nice yard art as well as good layers =]

Well, if you are every crazy enough to drive down I-35 to Austin - stop at the Highway 29 Georgetown, TX exit and go to the Georgetown Farm Supply store. She's there most of the time and has great information that she loves to share.

If I ever head down that way I will be sure to stop in. As of right now though, that is a really long drive. I wish there was a chicken guru near where I live. I would have so many questions!

there are actualyl a few Dallas people on here...i know one guy was trying to reach out to some fellow chicken people around dallas not too long ago! he is cowboys fan...but dont hold it against him
