I saw someone today with white and blue emu(might be an ostrich in with normal colored emu hard to tell) and thought they were so cute, but I know they are very large birds, and my fence would not hold them, lol. But if I move I though about having some more exotic looking pets. What type of shelter do you use for them?
had to be an ostrich

emus come in shades of brown and there are a very few "white".. that look more like ivory than a pure white

emu are pretty 'safe' as far as ratites go.. and adult male ostrich would have no issues with killing a person (even if they are hand raised).. cassowary are even worse.

so as for "pets" emus then rheas

I'm about an hour from you but I have a farm that going to there I go through Longview and could bring you some Easter egger eggs or chicks in a couple weeks
Anyone around the Longview area with Americaunas/Easter Eggers?? Looking to add some color to my eggs
Thanks

Got myself on the map! Yay! But I am sad, there are no dots anywhere near me.... My poor little dot is all alone.

But good news! After I made that post about trying to do the map I went outside to cheer myself up. I took popcorn to the chickens for a treat and I got to be there to witness my little barred rock hen lay her first egg!

That's Paco and Dorian.. my two "lover boys" they adore hugs

Rose is my only female (had 9 boys and 1 girl).. she is the "princess" of the group.. hates attention unless it's her idea.. which isn't very often.. i am hoping for a better ratio of girls to boys with the eggs that are in the incubator right now
