ooo those are pretty too! man my list is getting long, lol!
I know! I have wanted one for a while, just not sure how the dog will get along with one

all those creatures are definatly down the road a bit. the 50 acres i live on currently is gonna get split up amongst the children of the family, my DW being one of them, so we will end up with about 12+ acres of our own. once that all get established, and lines are drawn or whatever i will be making an investment to re-fence our area and make it suitable for having livestock.

there are currently about 15 head of cattle that are on the property, mainly for the tax exemption on the property. They have no barn, or corral, or stalls...they get some hay in the winter time but other than that just kinda roam around and make babies, leave cow patties, then die. as far as i know they arent even used or sold as meat...i believe its one of the uncles that actually owns them

but once i get to clean up some of the pasture and get a barn build on MY land, then its game on! just dont want to end up spending money fixing and replacing fence that isnt going to be mine, just in case there are the mine vs yours arguments in the future, which tend to happen with stuff like this...who knows i may try to scoop up a litle more than just the 12 acres if offer presents itself! but yeah, cant wait!

Wow - crazy. In my county, they have some pretty strict guidelines about what counts for an ag-exemption. You have to actually show that x % of your property is going to utilized agriculture - ie. not just parking animals on it; but, actually working, breeding, selling, etc. If I were actually to get off my rear and got the goats I want up and breeding...and then sold them...I'd more than cover the % requirement..........but, I don't want the headache of dealing with all the health and permits crap I need to do all that....and, I just don't have the amount of acreage I'd need to qualify **pouts**

So, I just use the homestead exemption, my husband's over 65 exemption and my Disabled Vet exemption. We slapped my husband's over 65+ on the school taxes and my DV went on something else...can't remember. Would have been sweet if they had let us put both on the school tax....30% off school taxes? Hells yeah.

BTW, for those in the WilCo area who are wondering about the ag exemption for the county....Here is where it is located. And, this, aside from my lack of property, is what kills my ability to get an ag exemption:

Quote:
‐Harvesting of native plants or wildlife.
‐Processing of plants and animals.
Processing constitutes any activities that take place after the crop or animal has been
raised and harvested and any activity a non‐producer carries out on agricultural
products. Processing begins at the first level of trade beyond production. Processing
begins when activities occurthat enhance the value of primary agricultural products.
‐Personal consumption of crops or livestock produced by owner.
‐Land used to train, show, or race horses, or to ride horses for recreation, or to keep or use
horsesin somemannerthatis notstrictly incidentalto breeding orraising horses.
‐ Raising cattle, goats, orsheep for FFA and 4Hprojects.
‐Token agricultural use which occursin an effortto obtain tax relief

Speaking of sheep and goats, anyone know how good Painted Desert sheep are about grazing or browsing? I was wanting a painted desert ram if I could get my hands on one. Wouldn't mind a pair either. I love the horns <3
They are pretty much like a Barbado they prefer to browse but will graze and you can cross them with most any sheep mine are nowhere near a pure strain of Barbado. Mine have mouflon, black hawain

Yeah im not 100% sure how all that works out, thats just the story that i have been told. maybe is has something to do with our land being "rented" to keep cattle on for x-reason.....who knows? might have been one of those grandfather clause type situations as DW's grandfather was born in the farmhouse that is still on the property that he actually lives in to this day...ida say this land has been owned by the same family for about 100 years...

In them also, very few people have direct strains any more. Everybody pretty much is trying to breed for different Colors now. My grandmother has two little ones that look like paints but I'm pretty sure I've never introduced that genetic into her herd. I try to buy rams for us that have large horns color never really mattered to us much.

I wish I could have 12 acres!!! I am renting from a friend at there house and only have about... a 130x40 foot space for the chickens and my DH dog... not a lot of room, but we are managing, so my sheep will have to wait now. I might get a dog for myself though, that way DH dog also has a playmate when we can't be there, and I can have my buddy. If I could move to a place of our own on an acre at least, I would do it in a heart beat, but since I have no credit (never had a credit card), and he has horrible credit, no luck. That and I only work part time, about two days a week unless I get called in for someone else. I get about 12 hours a week at 8.75 an hour at a vet clinic. =_= Crossing my fingers for more work. Cant beat $200 for rent and splitting utilities tho.

Just make sure you don't loose that ah exemption or you will have to pay 5 years back taxes. Even if you haven't owned the property to long. As long as you have more than 10 acres you shouldn't have to many problems keeping it!

I am looking for nice horn growth and good color. Something like this http://www.elcascabel.com/PDDS/pd8.jpg or http://www.sycamorespringsranch.net/sycamorespringsranch/assets/Image/14painted_desert_ram.jpg

If you are interested in a dog, we are putting a great dane on the college station craigs list today! he is precious and we have been fostering him for the last few months just going by word of mouth in hopes that we could hold on to him but 6 dogs is just too much for me to keep up with. He just hit 1 year, full shots, he is fixed, microchipped, crate trained and house broken and really havent had any issues with him and the other dogs (my pit mix kinda stays at odds with him, more due to jealousy than anything cause he is such a loavable oaf that wants to be right next to me, which is murphy's spot in his eyes, lol)

Anyone else as well, if you are interested please PM me...i love Arnold (the dane, pretty fitting i think) and want him to go somewhere he will be happy. i am will to drive/meet just about anywhere. let me know!
