Hi there! I thought i would check out the Texas thread. I'm outside of Greenville, in North East Texas. My husband and I have nine layers, sex links and white plymouths, one white plymouth rooster, some meaties, and four (hopefully three soon) Seramas. Which reminds me. Anyone want a beautiful serama rooster with a lovely, clear piercing (did I mention obnoxiously loud?) crow on him?

It's great to meet you guys, and I look forward to getting to know my chickeny neighbors.
Welcome!!

im starting to work on an outdoor brooder/grow out pen...gonna be for my 5week olds until they get big enough to move into the big coup and open run for free ranging. i want to wait till they are a bit bigger, so will build an enclosed run until they get to attempt to freerange, and of course for new babies until they are old enough to be blended to the main flock.

questions/concerns are: all i will need to put in it will be roost space, no need for nest boxes correct? Second, just by seeing pics of Little-Wings grow out, do you have an actual enclosed coup for them inside your big metal tractor? or is it more of an open-air set-up? if i can get this built large enough (and cheap enough) it may become the bachelor pad or possible a tractor if i can rig some wheels as well. whatever insight on this is appreciated, and tips of the trade are welcome too!

I love that roo. What is it?

He is a salmon faverolle. Got him about a month ago from someone who was just starting her breeding flock. She got a few too many roosters and was selling each roo with a hen to try and get rid of them. I don't know if either of them are show quality, but I love them just the same. I am ordering another female from McMurray to add in with the pair I got. Hopefully she doesn't look too bad.

Sorry to hear that. It got cold last night. The heat lamp in my outdoor brooder has been off for the last 4 days. Turned it on last night.

I had a milk crate in it for a nest box if I needed it but the little ones just slept in it and filled it with poop so I took it out. They all sleep on the roost now. For a grow out pen all they need is food, water and shelter from the wind and rain.
ETA... And a roost.

Welcome to byc!!!! I would love to take him, but I already have a rooster, and he is quiet which means my house mates will not complain. I was up your way about two weeks ago! Haha.
