Texas

I am from Alvin, it's between Houston and Galviston.

I have 26 chickens and 2 Pomerainians, well 18 of the chickens and he dogs are my moms, but I still love them.

I am in West Odessa and sure wish I could find someone nearby. Back in the day I knew so many but life happened and now I don't know anyone here who has chickens and stuff. I am not having any luck getting this incubator to decrease in temps and hate my guinea eggs to go to waste. I need someone who knows what they are doing hehe.

I would not buy from this person. Was she in Waco or in Cove area? I emailed her asking questions about the araucana and 'americana' and Im afraid she has easter eggers. She said that it was a simple spelling error, but Im sorry no one who raises true ameraucana's would completly misspell there name. She got very upset and never emailed me back.

I do have a few BCM hens and one rooster, I might be selling in the near future. Im not 100% sure yet. If you want email and we can talk.

What kind of incubator do you have and what seems to be the issue?

I have a Brower 817G, it is a round aluminum model and was only used a couple times back when it was new and has been in storage for 25+ years.
I got it out and cleaned it up and it still works but I cant seem to get it to stablize at the correct temp. I will adjust it and it will read 88 then I will increase it a half turn and check later and it will be 120 so I turn it down and so on and so on, I am getting so frustrated. I think the thermometer wasnt working right after it went real high because there was mercury stuck at the top that wasnt there before so I got a new thermometer a digital one this time but still cant get it right. My eggs are only going to be good for 2 or 3 more days so I think Im just out of luck. I really wanted to do this myself. I am disabled and can't drive so I am stuck out here on the West side of Odessa and don't know anyone anymore that could help me. I know I should have checked the incubator before I got the eggs but I felt sure it would all be ok since it has been stored well and still looks so good. My fault for not checking first.

I have a question about feeding and watering. I would have posted in that forum, but south/central Texas seems so different than the rest of the country. In San Antonio, where weather rarely gets below freezing, but frequently above 90, I can't decide whether I need to feed/water inside my coop.

My coop is pretty small for 4 chickens: 4x3 x 3' tall, b/c I built it just for laying/roosting. My run is big for the city: 15' x 4'

Do I have to feed inside the coop? Wouldn't the chickens prefer to feed outside with the breeze? Do I need to water inside the coop too?

I've been a chicken owner for only 5 days.

Absolutely we have to lock them in at night. We live out in the sticks and have lots of predators. Our barn coop has an automatic door with a light sensor... so it closes at night and opens in the morning.
