I honestly don't know. Just reading through the links on auctions, I'm going to guess that it's more of a fund raiser to purchase the livestock. Maybe somebody else knows for sure.

I know you can buy cattle and goats for meat...dont know about fowl though

I think the auctions at the Houston Livestock Show raises money for scholarships. I dont know how they line up /qualify the people who bid. People also donate money to sponsor the classes for the breeds/types of stock.

For brooder bedding i found a deal on pine shavings but it is listed as bedding for guinea pigs etc...would this still work? Im getting my firat babies this weekend and would hate to mess up this early!

as long as its not cedar... I use pine shavings that are in a big bag from TSC for $4.99.

I think as long as it's not cedar its ok. I use the big flake pine shavings and they work fine for chicks and in the coops.

Ok. I wasnt sure if there were different sized shaving for poultry bs rodents. I know to stay away from cedar though.

I think inread somewhere that sawdust is a no-no, is that true or am i imagining things?
