Ahh! Yeah, the brooder room can be over the top hot, quick. Our house is GREAT for the summer months - it was designed specifically for the Texas heat. It sucks toad toenails during the winter, though. We keep a fire and the heater going nearly non-stop. Our house is almost solid stone with hard wood and tile floors, a tin roof and cathedral ceilings with a loft. It's oriented north-south with the loft on the north side. Keeps the house very comfortable even on some of our hotter days; but...then again, we are used to extreme heat (Mazatlan) without the benefit of AC (boat + ocean + no engine = no AC). It's the cold that makes us curl up and whimper. **chuckles** Our idea of "just right" is mid to high 90s. This feels great; but, a tad on the cool side, especially if the winds kick up. I was worried about the chicks getting cold last night (they're fully feathered and more than ready to be outside) and Mike snorted and laughed at me. Told me I was being silly![]()
We have learned to adjust...cold showers and sleevless shirts...but wouldnt change my location for the world (and DW that freezes to death if it drops below 90 is right at home). Im still on the young side of life but DW and are going to eventually build a home on the land then everything will be hunky-dori! Been out there for almost 2 years now, starting up my flock soon, life is good!
*waves hand*Had to put ice packs in the chicken brooder today. My meaties were panting like crazy! Probably aren't too many places having this problem right now!
Yeah, I wonder who all is running the AC right now. I know I am!
Lol, I ran the AC with the windows open today.*waves hand*
I run the AC when I'm hot and opening the windows and doors just don't do it. 50's house, no central air, I only use 3 rooms, and window units. So my electric bill is normally around 1/4 my neighbor's bill even when I run the space heater and the AC at the same time. Yep, I've caught myself doing that. Crazy weather!
Hey, AC feels really good that way! hehe*waves hand*
