Texas

First nite with then new little guys and all is well! All 10 strong and accounted for!

I ended up not going with TSC for mine because all they had were production chickens, and i wanted something different for my first flock. I called up a feed store in houston and they had exactly what i was lookin for!

Needless to say, loaded up dw and the little man and 2 hours later was the proud papa of 3 barrd rock pullets, 3 australorp ( str8 run), 2 americana (str8), and 2 silkie bantams one black and 1 white! Sorry havent got pictures yet but their comin!
Do you mind me asking which Houston store you went to?

We are working on our first flock and I'm trying to track down specific breeds .... I made the mistake of going through breeds with my kids and now they MUST have certain ones. I'm having a hard time finding most of them available from the online hatcheries I've checked.

TIA!

Quality feed in the heights. Basically I-45 and Main. They get their chicks from Ideal hatchery and re stock their chicks about every other week. When i was there saturday they had PBR, silkies, americauna, austrolorps, and some started leghorns....along with ducks/guinies/ turkeys.

They told me they were going to be getting some cuckoo marans soon too! Great store! Give em a call and see what if they got what your looking for

Hey TIA,
welcome-byc.gif
and the Texas thread! What breeds are you looking for? They must have picked some doozies. lol There are lots of great folks on here that have some nice birds and some probably close to you. Check out the BYC Members Map https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/740342/interactive-byc-map Good luck!

Well I got the chicken tractor 80% complete. I still have to finish the waterer and make a hanging feeder. I put two roost in it, one low along the side and one up high along the back close to the back tarp so they get up there at night. I went out there last night and checked and they were huddled up in the corner. I built it more for a grow out pen so it doesn't need nesting boxes but I feel like they need more shelter. Maybe get a bigger tarp that comes farther around the sides. They've become accustom to their nice cozy stalls with tin roofs wooden walls and deep pine shavings. Maybe they will find the perch today.

Looks really good Little-wing. Maybe just throw a dog house under there and that'll give them their cozy home?

Hello everyone!

I'm new to the site. We're in the process of building a backyard coop for about four birds. I've enjoyed reading everyone's posts and keeping up with the site. All the info has really been helpful!

Thanks,

jdfbg
