Crowing
I am sorry if I implied otherwise. I stated in my post that 20% was not over the top. I forget my colloquialisms are not universally understood. I meant that to say that 20% is ok for providing as feed to chicks. I do feel that 22% (not 20%) in their food is a bit over the top for a grown bird, since they will get additional proteins from foraging; however, that is solely my opinion and worth precisely nothingIt's true that too much of anything is not a good thing. But I feel that giving a layer 14-16% is just not enough. And that a growing bird needs 18-20% minimum. I tend to just give them all 18% grower once the little ones are a few months old and put out free choice oyster shell. But before that, the chicks get 20% medicated feed with even a bit of something like Calf Manna thrown in. I am talking LF breeder quality Orpingtons though and it could be that they just have a higher need then some of the smaller breeds.. Seriously, though, H&H starter-grower is 20% protein. So

i was so happy when I found this in my favorite feed store last week! I'm using the Scratch grains to add to my Layena crumbles in my FF. When I'm finally out of the Layena I'll go H & H all the way
