Sweet. I really need to make a run up there and talk to him about what it would cost to haul in what I need to make it up. I'm open to tweaks, as well. I got a lot of grief because of the seeds in it; but, they didn't see the ratios, so...yeah. Anyway, I think it's worth considering, anyway.

What kind of wheat?
Lol.. i didn't even ask since I know those beasts out there will eat anything.

I'll find out Saturday when I run out there to pick it up (it's supposed to be in sometime Friday)

in my big pen of 8-9 layers and a roo they go thru a 10 lb feeder every other day.... so that would be almost a bag a week or so? im bad at math....
I wish that's all mine ate..

I must be doing something wrong because my girls (EEs and BRs) hardly touch their feed except for the mash in the morning and the scratch grains. They will nibble on it a bit now and again; but, mostly they want to just forage.

My rascals (Black Australorps and SLWs) on the other hand, demolish their feed and refuse to forage. Go figure.

So, right now, anyway, I'm hardly touching my feed. In the last three weeks I've used maybe 15#.

I may be showing my ignerntz here but what is the big deal with GMO non GMO. Isn't just about everything we eat genetically modified

Depends on what you buy. I try to avoid processed foods - in a large part because apparently a lot of the allergies I've developed since entering my 40s is suspected to be due to over exposure to certain things in my diet through the preceding 40 years. Lovely.

I have to consume raw milk unless I want to experience issues. Something in the breakdown process of pasteurization causes me to have an allergic reaction to the separated proteins. All nuts have gone on the no-no list. Many processed sugars and grains cause me difficulty.

So - for me and mine, it's all about "going primal" as some people refer to it. Others have other names for it. But, basically, if it's something my great-grandparents couldn't have found to eat (processed cheese product anyone? genetically modified corn?) then it isn't eaten in my home. That applies to my pets, as well. And, yes, that means I have often wound up making my own pet foods until I could find a pre-packaged product that would suffice.

edit: as for what's the big deal...there have been problems introduced into the agrarian field due to genetic tweaking of plants. Depends on what you read as to who will have what opinion. However, creating a hybrid by naturally cross pollenating is one thing...to actually alter the DNA of the plant to modify its genetics into doing something it shouldn't do is another. It is causing some problems and the question of what potential issues will be felt decades in the future can't be ignored. So...I just have a dislike for GMO due to too many factors that cannot be accounted - too many questions to which there is no answer. Considering the practice is banned in so many countries...well...I'd just rather avoid it where possible.

no not everything... gmo is mainly THE DEVIL!!! MONSANTO!
their seeds are patented or some BS.... if you grow their geniticly modified seeds you must do what they want to get paid for your work! they put thousands of farmers out of business because of their crops! they are supposed to be pest, disease, and mold resistant because of things that were done geniticly to them to prevent those things from harming the crops.... i have read somewhere that years after consuming GMO food stuffs for extended periods health issues occured... it has gotten so bad that Argentena BANNED and burned all of its Monsanto products! that brand is now ILLEGAL in that country! i wish it was the same here! soy is a big one that they produce but so is corn and other grains that our chickens eat! and what the chickens eat, so do we by eating them... thats why i like raising my own broilers! i know what i feed them! i know they arent cooped up in a 1x1 box their entier life and then hauled off to a killing plant! i off with their heads in my back yard! where they know its home! and BOY DO THEY TASTE GOOD!!!! so much better than store bought!!!

Think of it this way.. many of the "pest resistant plants" they have made actually produce their own pesticide.. not something I want to eat if I can help it!
