Well, I just couldn't wait. I made the long drive to the feed store and got the H&H layer feed. Now I can relax and not worry about what I was going to do for their next meal (almost literally).

FYI: The price was $28 for 50# at the feed store I chose.

I just sold all of the BLRW chicks that hatched yesterday. I set another hatch yesterday that are due on March 11th. I sold 27 BLRW pullets in December in 2 days on CL. If you want to try your hand at hatching I can send you some eggs...

You only had to go to Pfluggerville, right? There was a massive standstill on I-35 due to a multi-car accident on SB at Hester's.

Ah, I was there only yesterday but I live east of Pflugerville and the feed store is on the eastern edge of Pflug. Standstill on I-35 at Hester is normal, multi-car accident is not. I made good time though. The chickens have already had a sampling of the new stuff and they love everything in it. It was funny to watch them "test" out the big seeds. Thanks again.

Found you some wyandottes...was contemplating looking into those...might have to get some eggs form some of yall later. the Red laced you were talking about sound quite interesting!

For those that want to decrease feed waste, have you thought about fermenting the feed first, or at least wetting it down. I have 0% waste if I ferment. I have two buckets one with fermented scratch and one with fermenting layer feed. Seems to work pretty well, got my egg production way up. When I get lazy and feed dry, egg production goes down and I see wasted feed all over the ground.

Only draw back, is you have to feed daily, before with dry I would just fill up the feed buckets and let it go for a few days till empty, now it is every day.

Oh, I feed daily anyway (twice daily, actually). Our humidity is crazy and I don't trust the feed to not get contaminated if I don't.

i had thought about fermenting feed. never really looked into it though
