Texas

we are under a wind advisory in New waverly (walker county) as well...not lookin forward to seeing what the yard looks like when i get home...being in open pasture we get all kindas of goodies. in January when the wind was carzy i found a 6 foot peice of roofing tin in my yard from who knows where.

Holy Texas wind storm! Just drive back from floresville....wow! New braunfels is being pounded with wind! My truck is going everywhere!

The wind is bad here in Seguin also, power lines are down everywhere due to trees. Those poor lineman are out there working their rear ends off trying to get everybody back on as fast as they can.

The wind is nuts.. I'm convinced it has something to do with this crazy full moon..

First the cats tore up one of my incubators (messed with the cord and blew out the switch).. which was such perfect timing since I have a ton of eggs to go in it...
The cats also decided to get into my box of packing peanuts and bubble wrap.. it was a BIG box.. they always just lay on it.. they never try to open it.. (it's been taped closed since Christmas).. so last night they decided to have a party.. I have no idea who figured out that the tape needed to come off the box.. heck.. I can never get a box opened that easily! I woke up to packing peanuts everywhere.. in three different rooms... how do those things manage to migrate so quickly???
One of the mini equines got out last night (something he never does).. so I had to go hunt him down.
Then my husband's highly intelligent German Shepherd dug a hole to china under the back steps.. went in the hole and got stuck.. seriously.. she was crying and yelping cause she was stuck and could not get out........ so there I was this morning trying to dig under the steps (they can't be easily moved) in order to get her dug back out
Then the horse shed gets destroyed.. and now the tarp on the turkey coop is shredded...

I believe in Murphy's Law.. but normally it's just one thing here and there.. never this bad all at once!

needless to say today is NOT a day I would want to go play the lottery.. I would probably wreck my truck on the way to go buy tickets

i forgot in my list of "fun" I have had over the past day or so.. something (I suspect the neighbor's dogs) broke into the hutches and killed off the last of the rabbits but one (she managed to escape). Whatever it was shredded the hardware cloth and tore through wood.. which is something the raccoons were never able to accomplish.
So now the last three hutches are trashed too...

SOOOOOO, i am using standard un medicated feed for my chicks (MG brand)...If i wanted to sell their eggs as organic later down the line...(im fairly certain my area is chemical free, would def have to look into that if i get serious) would these chickens be "tainted" per say since they havent been organically raised from hatch, therefore nullifying my organic eggs?

Not really concerned with getting the national stamp of approval from "the man" to endorse me organically but at a farmers market or something would saying organic eggs lead to an issue?

not in my book.. what they are eating when they are laying the eggs should be the determining factor...

lets say you adopted a few nice layer hens.. kept them for a few months on pasture and organic feed.. as far as I am concerned their eggs would be "organic"

I don't know if other people do this but I usually use a heavy pie plate for feeding chicks.  The edges are up high enough they can't kick all the feed out but it gives them plenty of room to each get a place to eat. (yes, they poop in it and yes, I clean it out as quickly as I can)  For my grown chickens I use a heavy pot.  I tried feeders and my chickens kept flipping it over.  Didn't matter what size I got, our roo just likes to flip stuff all over the place.
I use a feeder we got from Tractor Supply in Dripping Springs, it was working great until today when I found 2 of my girls (both Delawares), had gotten INTO it ! All the way! What piggie girls! It distressed them so they aren't doing it anymore. I rewarded their initiative with a plastic lid filled with finely chopped fresh sweet potatos.... They loved it!

Sorry about your day, crazy winds here too (right outside Austin) I wanted to get the girls out today but I'm afraid they would bow away!
