Yes, you can pick birds up from Ideal. Just make sure they know ahead of time. I am going to pick up some more Brabanters from them next month.

Most of their birds are pet quality, but you can also get some very nice representatives of the breeds...
Woo Hoo! Didn't know that Ideal was in Cameron?? I'm not but a short drive from there!

Thanks Allen!

I need some hatching eggs near Wichita Falls, TX.. I can drive up to an hr to pick them up if someone has some they can sell me. ANY breed is fine. :)

Send me a message and let me know if anyone has some I can get.. :)

That stinks! Someone at that PO told us about someone getting a box of turkeys and mentioned how quiet they were...
just got my order from Meyer hatchery of my 15 turkey and all but 1 DOA! calling them the second they open. anyone ever had this happen to them?

besides.. you worry too much.. heck.. I stack eggs.. ignore them.. break all those new fangled "rules"

and still get tons of birds with no problem

repeat the mantra "incubation is easy.. incubation is easy..... incubation is easy..." then remember you are playing god.. lol

besides...those poor ol hens have been doing it for a heck of a long time.. with no fancy equipment..

I need that tattoo'd somewhere. You're not the first one to say it.

The last a-frame was built and The Rascals are officially in their "big boy and girls home".

We painted this one to match the house.

Next up - the first of the "real" coops. Told him it had to be big enough to house 55 birds...I thought he was going to pass out.

Oh, btw, I actually went by TSC for the first time in my life. They had a coop there for sale for $149. That's about what we spend on our A-frames with run...The A-frames are solid, pressure treated wood (the other two were solid redwood, but yeah) with 1/2" hardware cloth...That coop at TSC? It felt like balsa wood. And, the stain they put on it doesn't do much to protect the wood or withstand the elements. I couldn't imagine it holding up under the winds like what we had the other day. Even though rare, we do get some pretty good gusts around here. What in the world are they thinking? I'd have expected something sturdier.

i LOVE the coup...how many fit in that one? and if my memory serves me...which in most cases it doesnt, are you the one that sells them in the austin area? IF so...you think you might be willing to sell plans? i doubt that i would realistically hauls a built one all the way to Huntville, but am definately gonna be looking for some breeding pens in the near future!

It depends on the size of the birds; but, I wouldn't suggest more than five...maybe six if they are small/medium size birds. Mostly because of roosting space. If you had five or six, you'd probably want to put a divider in that nesting box. I have six in each for mine; but, I have medium birds mixed with large birds. The run winds up giving them a total of 10sq ft per bird with about 8 linear inches each of roosting space. You can fit about 9-10 bantams in one pretty comfortably with the run.

I have a slightly smaller one that I am going to be using as a breeding pen for my Dorkings. I'll be keeping exactly two birds in it. **grins**

I'll ask my husband if he's intending to actually draw up the plans. He keeps saying he is; but, well - he keeps getting side tracked. He just had two orders come in for full sets of Adirondack furniture so he's been busy on that, today. And, I'm nagging him to get my big coop started - which he's not even drawn up rough designs for, yet. I'm a slave driver.

Of course, the eggs in the incubator are more of the slave driver in this instance. He doesn't want 40 something birds running around the house.

And, yeah - a 3 hour one way drive is something we do about once a month; but, it's not something we'd like to do more often than that

We're doing that this weekend, actually. My step-daughter's baby shower is Saturday. So, we get to drive over and join in the party. Grandbaby (step) number ten is in the oven.
