Wow...the guy in post #5 is something else....

I'm a bit nervous about my incubator. We are currently in the middle of a test hatch to see if we have built one that will actually work. My Red Dorking eggs from Dick Horstman arrive the end of Mar/beginning of Apr and I need to be certain my incubator will do the job properly.

So far, all is looking well. Air cell development is a little advanced; but, I upped the humidity a bit (40%) to slow it down a skosh and it seems to be doing the job. I'll probably drop back to dry incubation tomorrow or so. **crosses fingers**

I've got a herpstat thermostat that is keeping me within +/- .9 degrees, so that's spectacular. I have a humidity controller that's keeping me within +/- 2% of the humidity I want...that's decent. The ventilation seems to be pretty spot on. We have a vent hole right under the hair dryer (yes, that's how we are heating it) and so when it cuts on (on the low setting), it sucks fresh air in, heats it and shoves it into the plenum that then cycles it through the incubator.

So far, we've been staying between 99.3 and 100.1 for our temps.

12 more days to go...

you'll be fine.. remember hatching is NOT rocket science.. you've seen my emu bator right now! eggs stacked all over them and my new bator is AWOL... grr I think Fedex is holding it hostage

besides.. you worry too much.. heck.. I stack eggs.. ignore them.. break all those new fangled "rules"

and still get tons of birds with no problem

repeat the mantra "incubation is easy.. incubation is easy..... incubation is easy..." then remember you are playing god.. lol

besides...those poor ol hens have been doing it for a heck of a long time.. with no fancy equipment..
