Ok friends! First set of Eggs arrived yesterday! I have been playing with the bator and my humidity was at 16% due to our recent snowfall. I did add a tiny bit of water to see what would happen and it's at 30% now. I feel like this is a good start... No?
I let the eggs rest fat side up for 12 hrs unwrapped. Although I think they rested longer. By the time I was able to go to the PO they had been there for 6 hours and they lady had packaged them fat side up as well. I tried candling with the phone flashlight app and didn't see the airsac very clearly. I might try to make a better candler today. One looked very porous... Actually a few did. Think this will be a problem?

Here are the potential babes...

And here is an example if the porous one... Thoughts?

First timer here! Wish us luck!

Maybe?

It doesn't work in all chickens since it's determined by specific genes. Some people will swear that it only works in purebreds bred for that gene.. but I can feather sex my mutts with no problem.. the reason is because in the heritage of my mutts there is the gene for it. So with some chickens it will work.. others it won't

basically the gene is for faster feathering and is sex linked..

so day old pullets will have uneven wing feathers

and the feathers on cockerels will be more even:

yea i need my sumatras sexed too! lol who knows how to vent sex?!?!?!

I do.... lol.. i posted a bunch of videos for it on another page.. I'll go find them

I would go dry.. then candle the eggs again in a few days to see how the air cells are doing. If all of they start to grow too large too quickly then I would add water to the bator.

porous eggs can be iffy.. some lose weight way too fast and some don't.
If you are finding that only the porous ones are losing weight too quickly let me know and I can give you a few tips to slow down moisture loss on just those eggs

Good morning everybody, hope y'all all had a good night, it was a fun evening for me yesterday I got my bull and two heifers back home, they had decided to swim the river and go visit the neighbors. But got the fence fixed. Chicks are doing good and growing fast!

just got my order from Meyer hatchery of my 15 turkey and all but 1 DOA! calling them the second they open. anyone ever had this happen to them?

ouch... sorry they didn't make it

I've never had big losses like that
I think the most DOA I have had was 2 and they were from Ideal

poults can get chilled very easily.. but 15 sounds like enough to keep them warm..... unless the post office left them sitting out on a loading dock last night

EggsforIHOP Is the name if I remember it correctly.. used to frequent BYC and has some great goats 'round up north of Houston... I almost bought one last year. But I'd have had to upgrade my back fence and got to thinking eh, I need to wait till I have more space.

I don't know if I uploaded pic right, in case I didn't here's the situation. I have a 3 day old chick that won't stand up. She moves, but she crawls. She chirps, gets cranky when I pick her up she just won't stand up and walk on her own. Any suggestions on what, if anything, I can do for her? Thanks

Have you tried giving her electrolyte water and or some of that poultry nutridrench? I'm guessing those would be the first steps to try. At three days it could likely still be shipping stress I think. I hope you can bring her out of it.
