. Lol. Btw, we have a little chick that is literally the smallest one of our six and it is my fav so far and I was wondering if there is a way to mark the lil girl so that I can identify her when she catches up with the rest. Do you have any safe ideas on how to do this? I was thinking of striping her with hot pink nail polish, but, that prob isn't a safe way.
Zip ties are difficult to deal with. Go to the dollars store hair section and purchase a pack of tiny colored rubberbands. I suggest you put them on the others as well so they don't all pick on her. It takes a few hours for them to get used to them. For my four days old chicks I doubled the band before slipping it over the foot. My 10 day old chicks got colored velcro ties like are used to gather up electronic cords. I found a varity pack of six in the sewing notions isle at walmart. I cut these more down to size and will soon put them on all my chicks as they get bigger. I'm gonna save the zip ties for when they have stopped growing. Just my two cents.

You can use food dye on their feathers, as well. Just a dot on the top of its head - renew it when it starts to fade. Non-toxic and easy to spot. They also sell tiny rubber rings you can use. Velcro is ok except you're going to find it picks up a lot of crap (possibly literally).
I like the food dye idea. May try that instead of nail polish. I also use zip ties

Quote: I have some chicks in my incubator that will be going to Yinepu after hatch. Her's will be marked one colour and mine another. I'm doing random dots **snickers** But - I'm actually taking the day of hatch off so I can be there as each egg hatches. That way I know who came from what egg.....isn't that pitiful?

Ok the spray? DW was thinkin bathing them with the baby shampoo and then dusting them after they dry... i was going to dust the pens thuroughly(SPELL CHECK!) This weekend anyway but you said the DE wont kill the mites? Fudge! What about soapy water? Guess im goin off to the feed store....
