My dUccles got their tail feathers plucked by the standard hens.. not the roos.. but my silkies do fine with the bigger roosters.. the polish roo got his rear end handed to him though.. but in retrospect he asked for it... .. lol

I have 2 bantams & 4 standard size hend. My D'Uccle gets picked on by everyone but the Sebright holds her own, sort of. If I had to do it over I wouldn't mix bantams with standard size hens,mid build them a separate coop.

Btw, I love Emus too, but they live thirty plus years. I can't guarantee I'll be in one spot long enough I care for them properly. They are so funny and sweet though - *sigh*

So my dogs are escape artists and will dig out of the yard no matter what i do. Im thinkin about lating some strips of weld-wire along the ground around the yard. Does anyone else have any ideas, and elec fence isnt an option at the moment.

2 of the dogs that dig out are a great dane and a french mastiff...so my holes are BIG!!!

2 of the dogs that dig out are a great dane and a french mastiff...so my holes are BIG!!!

One of our neighbors at one time had a Rottie that dug under the fence and he would use railroad ties to shore up the bottom of the fence. Our fence is 3" pig wire and I have larger stones 6" along the bottom to discourage armadillos, possum from starting holes that the dogs will go through. A layer of roll chicken wire 2' along the fence covered over with gravel or dirt (for appearance) will do it I think. We used that with the wolfhounds when they dug holes to lay in.

I have two escape artist. One goes under and one goes over the fence. I googled it and there wasn't much help. Dumb stuff like remove the reasons they want to leave. Mine leave to run with the other dogs running the hood. Using welded wire around the bottom was the only thing I read that might work. Those are big dogs, better anchor it down good. My place is too big for that. I do that around my coops with chicken wire to keep rats out.
My big dog can climb a 5' fence, no problem. There is nothing I can do about that.
I put a couple of strands of electric wire around my garden early last spring. It only took one or two times for them to learn. I haven't had it on since last August and they still steer clear of it like its hot. Fixing to have to fire it up again though, got a new chow pup and two new cats that need a lesson.
All I can say is, get a bigger shovel. lol

uhm.... other than sinking cinder blocks into the ground along the edge (which those big guys would probably dig out anyway).. is there any way you could pour a concrete edge.. almost like a sidewalk.. around the edges?

if not you may have to lay some sort of welded wire along the ground.

Bout to lay some welded wire along the ground...we will see if more drastic measures need to be taken in a few days
