I think they are about 12 weeks old. I think he is from my Christmas Eve hatch. I probably have one younger, I just can't tell right now. It's a lot harder for me to sex the pure Ameraucanas. The EEs, you can tell by their patterns sometimes but the two males I got were hand picked. She wanted them because they were darker than the rest.
i got some 5-weekers that are hopefully headed to the outside coup/brooder hopefully this week. So far it seemd as though ive "Lucked-out" and got all pullets from what i can tell so far! Most people would love to have 7 straight run chicks of diff breeds all be pullets, but of course i wanted one or 2 roos and i dont get them!!

I really am interested in possibly getting one of them off of you, and if you have any that are in the age range of my guys that would be even better! in the neext few days to a week i should be able to really tell whats what and will be able to determine what i wanna add, rooster wise to this group!

I have a BLRW roo about 16 wks old and a pullet to go with it but she is only 10 wks. I've got some Blacks and Black splits in the brooder but not sure of the sex. No shortage of roos here! When you are ready, let me know. You should get a black AM roo and a Lav AM hen then you could have Lavs and Blacks from them. Just a thought.
I have my White Leghorn in with my Lav roo right now for some Super Blue Egg Layers. They should be white with beards, muffs and lay a lot of extra large blue eggs. I have some in the incubator now for the Easter Hatch-a-long.

Grey water is just fine for your garden. Grey water is not sewage. It is the water you use to wash your dishes, your clothes and your body. Use green/earth friendly soaps and you'll be fine. Grey water and well water are what are used for my irrigation. We have no smelly anything where our grey water is concerned. **shrugs** The only thing going to our septic are our toilets.

Yes, I have grey water set up on a separate system than my septic and my well. Incoming house water for me is from my well (kitchen) or the city (rest of the house). I have my toilets plumbed to the septic and the rest goes to grey water containment that is then used to irrigate - my irrigation cycles between my well and my grey water depending on how low my greywater gets - I do not use city water for my irrigation. Keeps me from having to pay attention to the water restrictions.

For more information on gray water in your garden, this isn't a half bad read. This one is pretty decent, too.

And, we were in the mid 80s, yesterday **grins** You can keep the snow up there!!

In other news, you have to love a boss who finds your chicken addiction amusing and even encourages it with funnies for the day such as:

Thank you, this is just great. I think, in general, I have to Calm The F Down about a garden and coop for my new place. I will instead focus all my energy on plans for the second new place, one that we are hoping to build out as energy and water efficient as possible. It is hard for me to imagine life without gardening though - impossible to imagine without hens.

I love the pic, and yes, it's great to have a boss that gets you.

Now, would you all PLEASE stop taunting me with your perfect weather?! It is indeed snowing and sticking and blowing sideways. This is going to be one of those Easters when the girls are stuck wearing turtlenecks under their pretty spring dresses, I can tell.

Right now the only spring I have going on is on my windowsill:

Zinnia seeds sprouting in our eggshell greenhouse. This is after just three days! Wish I had known about this earlier.

brought 9 cockrels to school with me today for my doc to work his hand at caponizing.... brought Igor too! everyone is sayin he needs to be put down and im thinkin so too! he started what looks like seizures this weekend.... other than that wish me luck!!!
ill post the results later on tonight!
Curious to know how this went. I had read up on it thinking I might try it but it is something way above my skill grade at the moment. I hope Igor is doing better, seizures does not sound like a good prognosis

Oh! Thoese White Leghorn x Lavander Ameraucana mixes sound wonderful! Where are you located? I might be interested in some to add to my flock!
